Recent Events and Developments in the Life of 1 Jumping Beans…

We attended a fabulous science fair and learnt fascinating facts about far flung features of space.

Josie lost her tooth! Julian, Caleb and Luca graduated from their yellow book to a red writing book. Great work guys!

We investigated parallel lines – and found it quite tragic that two lines could travel side by side forever but NEVER touch…!

We designed and created musical instruments, presenting them for our news.

And we spent this week talking about what makes us unique, as well as what we have in common. The result was the creation of the WORLD’S LONGEST VENN DIAGRAM. We are awaiting confirmation of this title from the Guinness Book of World Records.

PSSA Netball It’s a twister, it’s a twister…No, its the Balmain Netball teams! Balmain Public School blew into Tempe, like a twister into Oz. We tied up our ruby slippers and came to play…and play we did!Balmain Seniors smashed two games, winning by tremendous leads and dominating the court, only going down in the last game to the wicked witch of the west. Balmain juniors won one and lost one, but worked well as a team while learning as they played. Their skill level is improving immensely and they should be very proud of themselves.

Well done to all our netballers. It makes me smile, knowing you have so much fun out there. Thank you to Mr Bedford and Miss Ally for helping out…couldn’t do it without you.

Miss Jackie Dufty

soccer Our Junior A Team came out of the wilderness this week and into the field. One may guess they'd had an encounter with Jack London over the past fortnight, because our team had the will to survive. Dominating Wilkins Public School from the start, the team gained momentum, and worked under the strict supervision of this week's captain, Laila Roddis. With a perfect plan, they scored their first of 4 goals. The shots kept on flowing and the synergy was a sight to behold. ‘Man of the match’ goes to Micah M for his dream runs.

Our Junior B Team did not quite experience the same fusion as their peers. However, some great plays by Giselle and Eva saw the team spirit lift, despite their loss. Both players are this week's ‘Women of the Match’!

Mr Blake Nuto

PSSA is back after a week off, and the players were ready. They only thing they weren't ready for, was the wind. Not only did it add additional chill factor, but it gave the ball boomerang qualities the second it got off the ground. Balmain A overcame this hurdle under the leadership of Keturah M. They played against 'the team to beat' and won 4-1. Balmain B didn't fair as well, and while they tried extremely hard and had a wonderful captain in Lucy E, things didn't go their way. They unfortunately lost 0-2.

Spotlight on

Eaton St CentreOver the past few weeks, the

children have worked on writing letters to the nurses at the local

Balmain Hospital, in order to promote the importance of International Nurses Day.

It is vital that the children connect with their community in this way, as

it teaches them the importance of empathy at a local level, and allows

them to be interact with medical professionals.

On Thursday, Phoebe M from Balmain Public School, and

Siobhan C (Father John Therry), accompanied Tracey (ESC

Director) and I to the hospital to deliver the letters, meeting nurses, being interviewed by the hospital's

Media Officer and posing for several photos.

Their photos will be recorded in the SLHD newsletter, a monthly

newsletter, to be distributed within the Sydney Local Health District.

EXPERIENCE A NEW CULTUREMAKE NEW FRIENDS AND LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE AT HOME

HOST FAMILY OPPORTUNITIES

In June and July 2016, students aged 15 – 18 years from over 25 countries will be arriving in Australia to study at local schools for 3-10 months. Opportunities are available to act as a host family in a volunteer/unpaid capacity. Hosting can be on a temporary, short or long term basis.

Host families help provide each student with the chance to study and experience life in Australia. This is a great way to practice your language skills, share your stories, learn about another country and culture, establish a lifelong link to a family in another country and contribute to international goodwill.

Our students bring with them their own spending money, health insurance and a wonderful attitude and desire to learn about their new host country. They are eager to try our local sports, traditions and food. Your whole family...and your relatives and friends...will grow and learn as you all get to know your new ‘son’ or ‘daughter’ from another land. If your family can offer a friendly, supportive and caring home environment, contact us today.

To learn more about this opportunity call Student Exchange Australia New Zealand on 1300 135 331 or visit our website. http://studentexchange.org.au/host-a-student
