Pilgrimage to the Holy Mount Athos

The Holy Mount Athos is the largest and most important Orthodox community in Greece. It is a source of faith, for the millions of faithful Orthodox Christians, and is also visited by believers of other faiths. The Holy Mountain is a place of faith. It is a pilgrimage and not for holidays in the traditional sense. (We ask you to respect this.)

General Information

All nights on the Holy Mount Athos monasteries are in shared rooms.

Despite their many commitments, the monks find the time to make the visitors stay on Mount Athos as

enjoyable and informative as possible.

There is no established price to be paid for the stay and meals. The Monks are dependent on donations of

tour groups. We as a tour operator take care of these for you.

The Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner usually including red wine. When and if there will be wine

supply is defined solely by the respective monastery. It is not possible to make a special arrangement for wine

supply.

For your stay on the sacred mountain you need a residence permit. We take care of the paperwork for you.

The clothing that you wear as a pilgrim should correspond to the site.

The Holy Mount Athos gives pilgrims the opportunity of seeing the beautiful landscape, to enjoy making

contact with Jesus Christ and with one's own Psyche.

Other than the spiritual and mental intake, the pilgrims get during the stay on the Holy Mountain Athos, you

have the opportunity to be introduced to the special culinary art skills of the Monks.

The program to Mount Athos is very dependent on the program of each individual Monastery, which can

change through the many Church Holidays.

Every pilgrim should take as hand luggage a backpack, for a pleasant experience on the hikes.

Only men are allowed to visit Mount Athos. More travel information:

1. The names of the monasteries to be visited will be announced about 2 months before your trip.

2. Our goal is to usually spend only one night in the same monastery. Thus you have the opportunity of learning,

and comparing the differences between the various monasteries. In the event that we do not succeed, there

are the numerous monasteries we can visit in the form of day trips.

3. The maximum stay on the Holy Mountain Athos is four nights. In each Monastery one stays at, in the rule

there is always the opportunity given, to have a discussion with a Monk on various topics. In general, in all the

Monasteries one stays at, there is always a Monk available throughout the entire stay, for the visitors.

Program:

Day 1: FLIGHT TO THESSALONIKI - TOUR IN THESSALONIKI - OURANOUPOLI Departure from your point of origin to Thessaloniki. Arrival at Thessaloniki, our tour guide will take you on a tour of Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki is Northern Greece’s Capital, and in 1997, was UNESCO declared the Capital of Culture. We visitAgiosDimitrios Cathedral and its catacombs, as well as the beautiful church of Agia Sofia. We proceed to the Northern part of the city the famous castles of the city. Then we continue to drive to Ouranoupoli to our hotel. Distribution of rooms, dinner and overnight stay in Ouranoupoli.

Day 2: OURANOUPOLI - HOLY MOUNT ATHOS - MONASTERY VISIT After breakfast, we drive to Ouranoupolisharbour. From there we go by ferry to the Holy Mount Athos. Arrival in the capital of Mount Athos, Karyes, and from there we continue with small buses to our first monastery. After we are given accommodation, we enjoy the value of a usually small conversation in the monastery, depending on the programs of the monastery. After dinner we participate in the evening service, and then overnight stay in the Monastery.

Day 3: HOLY MOUNT ATHOS - MONASTERY VISIT After the service, and the subsequent breakfast, we will head to our second Monastery. Distribution of rooms and small tour of the monastery.Acquaintance with the monks and information about their way of life. Each monastery on Athos has its own individual Character. Followed by lunch and some free time.Participate in the evening service, and overnight at the monastery.

Day 4: HOLY MOUNT ATHOS - MONASTERY VISIT After the service, and the following breakfast, we have a visit to a monastery on the Holy Mountain Athos. Acquaintance with the Monks and information about their way of life.Lunch and free time.Evening mass and then dinner and overnight stay at the monastery.

Day 5: HOLY MOUNT ATHOS - KARYES - OURANOUPOLI - THESSALONIKI After the service, and the following breakfast, we get back on the way to the capital of Mount Athos, Karyes. From there we take the ferry to Ouranoupolis, and from there we transfer to our hotel in Thessaloniki. Distribution of rooms and the afternoon is free. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Thessaloniki Day 6: After breakfast we drive to the airport of Thessaloniki and fly back to your point of origin.

Nikos Delveroudis I was born and raised in Northern Greece at the foot of Mount Olympus, which I already regularly versed at a very young age. After my study of theology in Athens I settled in Germany in order to have a medical education. After that I worked as a nurse and later as head of my department in a denominational hospital. The unique culture of my country, my love for nature and the closeness to my home has always pulled me back to Greece. As location-qualified member of the travel agency, I accompany groups or individuals through the beautiful nature and culture of our country. Here I will explain in detail about the legislative history of landmarks, yearly data and geographical data, historical and art historical details. One of my favorite destinations is the Holy Mount Athos, which I gladly regularly visit, both personally, and with groups. For me personally, Athos is a major place of pilgrimage of Orthodoxy, it is the source of faith, for the millions of faithful Orthodox Christians, and is visited by believers of other religions.
