TRANSCRIPT
/
TNA E// is the account of the surveyor for the overseas trade ofBristol during the period Michaelmas to Michaelmas .It contains the same level of detail as the / account. Again, a
detailed comparison of the surveyor and controller accounts for the sameperiod raises questions about the level of independence involved in thecreation of these records. An interesting example, found on fr., showsboth officials listing goods, that when totalled using EXCEL, come to themodern equivalent of £., while both accounts give a total value of£., which suggests that they are both missing an item, or items, of thesame value, and indicates copying at some point in the recording proce-dure. Where any missing items have been identified in this comparativeexamination of the accounts they have been imputed into this transcriptionand are clearly identified as such.

The only other Providence recorded in this account is going to La Rochell and appears in June. The cargo and themerchants recorded here imply that this ship is definitely bound for Ireland. Therefore, either both the surveyor andcontroller accounts are missing an entry, or this ship is going to Ireland as well as Rochell.
