Shaina gusto sanang mag-solo sa europe!

Nakatakdang magbakasyon si Shaina Magdayao kapag nagtapos na ang teleserye niyang Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo. Kailangan magbakasyon ng dalaga dahil sa rami ng kanyang mga naging trabaho at dahil na rin sa mga naging problema niya sa kanyang personal na buhay.

“Magbabakasyon kami after the soap ends. Kasama ko sina Ate Vina (Morales) sa Europe. Dapat ako lang pero ang daming sasamang friends namin,” bungad ni Shaina.

Dapat ay sa Europe na magdiriwang ng kaarawan ang dalaga sa darating na Nov. 6 pero hindi ito matutuloy dahil sa kanyang taping schedules.

“Hindi pa kami makaalis until after I finish taping for Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo, which is on the third week of November,” dagdag pa ng aktres.

Sobrang excited na ni Shaina na pumunta sa Europe para makapunta sa Padre Pio Pilgrimage church.

“Devotee kasi ako, sobra! Last stop namin ’yun. Magpapasalamat lang ako

for all God’s guidance,” nakangiting pahayag ni Shaina.

Wala mang karelasyon ngayon ang dalaga ay masaya naman siya sa pagiging single.

Kamakailan ay nakabalik na sa bansa ang babaeng anak ni AiAi delas na si Sophia mula sa Amerika. May kinalaman nga ba ito sa diumano’y pakikitungo ng dating asawa ni AiAi na si Miguel Vera at ang kasalukuyang asawa ng singer?

Meet

First Ever Queen LolaI was born on a sunny day in February 17, 1950

and brought up in a small town in San Agustin, Irosin, Sorsogon. I have two very loving and hard working parents, Elena Gacosta, a dressmaker and Sixto Furing a WWII veteran. I have five brothers and two sisters. My brothers are Sixto Jr., Jesus, Rolando, Fernando and Joseph. Fernando and Joseph were named after my parent’s favorite actors, Fernando Poe and Joseph Estrada. My two beautiful and kind sisters are Maria Veronica and Maria Nimfa. I was blessed with four loving children from my first husband, Vincent Bernard who is married to Shiela Ty with three kids, Cielo, Sofia Mei and Troy. My son Vincent John Paul who is married to Lisa Laudico, also with three kids, Vincent Anthony, Andrew and Audrey. And lastly my daughters Ellen Rose and my youngest daughter, Grace Bernadette.

I considered my childhood days very memorable but extraordinary and unique. I do not remember playing and enjoying games like many young girls do. As early as I could walk, my Lola who was so religious took me along with her to church almost every day. After mass, we go around town visiting her old sick friends and feeding them with hard boil eggs kept in her small “banig” bag. She always carried it with her and her herbal plants where she used it for massaging the sick. Oftentimes, they let me dance along with to the music of their clapping.

My schooling years were the toughest, since my parents could not afford to send me to school necessarily. With my strong determination to finish with a degree, I was able to graduate with flying colors.

I became a teacher for twenty six years at Central Colleges of the Philippines and was a Trainer of Secondary Development Program (SEDP) in National Capital Program for both Public and Private Schools, and a Cultural Commissioner of Cultural and Athletic Ass. Of Colleges and Universities (CAACUP ). I also received a special merit award from the Australian Dancesport Academy held at PUP.

Here in Los Angeles, I worked as Physician Relations Staff at Temple Community Hospital, Activity Director of Silverlake Adult Day Health Care Center and Dance Instructor at Asia Pacific Health Care Venture.

My involvement in the community, for a good cause, is always in my heart. I am affiliated with nonprofit organizations namely, Temple Westlake Neighborhood Development Corp. as Board member, Fil/Am Community of LA (FACLA), MOTHER movement, PICC and UBLA.

Today I am happy with my life, enjoying it to the fullest, and am married to the most wonderful guy in the world, Mr. Reynaldo Flores Ganon.

TENSION gripped the Senate session yesterday afternoon when Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Antonio Trillanes IV engaged in a squabble which all started with the passage of a bill creating a new province out of Camarines Sur but eventually led to the younger lawmaker’s “secret dealings” with the Chinese on the Spratlys dispute.

Trillanes insisted that he had been authorized, although not in black and white (officially), by President Benigno Aquino to

conduct some “back channelling” efforts with concerned Chinese officials to peacefully resolve the conflict between Manila and Beijing concerning overlapping claims to the Spratly islands in the West Philippine Sea.

In his privilege speech, Trillanes accused Enrile of trying to bully his way to approve a proposed measure creating Nueva Camarines.

The Senate chief shrugged off Trillanes’s claim and insinuated that he raised the issue to “camouflage” his rift with Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario after the former Navy officer reportedly recommended to the President to charge the DFA chief with treason for trying to wage war against China.

Trillanes tried very hard to stop Enrile from reading the “notes” made by former Ambassador to China Sonia Brady regarding the former’s meeting with Chinese officials on the ground that it will tackle national security. With the approval of Senate Pro Tempore

Jinggoy Estrada, Enrile went on to read Brady’s notes. This prompted Trillanes to stage a walk out.

Enrile said that he wanted to “unmask” Trillanes. He even described Trillanes as “the phantom of Philippine politics.” Enrile told Trillanes that he was just sore because he declined his request for additional budget. Trillanes denied the allegation.

According to Brady, Trillanes told the Chinese that the Philippines “does not care about the Panatag Shoal.” Enrile said: “He said,’Sa Pilipinas walang may gusto sa amin ng panatag.’ Pilipino ba ‘yan? Makabayan ba ‘yan? My God, what kind of a senator is this?”

“In the height of the problem, he was suspecting that the Americans were involved in the conflict. He ascertained he did not want any conflict in election year, referring to the Chinese,” Enrile said.

“He told the Chinese that we cannot enforce our coastal

protection. That is the kind of the Filipino senator we have here. Ibig sabihin ipamigay na lang natin ang Scarborough Shoal pagka’t tayo ay duwag,” Enrile said.

He added: “Napakagaling naman ng admiral na ito. The senator was saying that Secretary Del Rosario should be replaced by Mar Roxas. Knowing that reports are coursed through DFA, the senator said he would give an alternate channel so that communications can go directly to Palace (Malacañang).”

”He (Trillanes) arrogated to himself to become the channel of foreign policy to Malacañang. He was working with bilateral relations with China. In a (recent) meeting with the Cabinet, it was agreed that we should not do that. I do not want to discuss any more this sordid matter. It is enough that I read the notes of Ambassador Brady to unmask this phantom of the opera in Philippine politics,” Enrile stressed.

Pnoy urges Silence on Spratlys Dispute

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino is disturbed by the conflict between Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario and Sen. Antonio Trillanes lV over the Philippines-China territorial dispute.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the President has asked the two to refrain from making further comments on the Philippines and China row.

Aquino already spoke to Del Rosario earlier in the day and asked him to “refrain from responding” to media questions.

“The President also wants to talk to Senator Trillanes,” Lacierda said.

The Palace spokesman confirmed that Trillanes previously volunteered to serve as backchannel negotiator to China at the height of tensions between Manila and Beijing over a territorial dispute in the West Philippine Sea earlier this year.

Amid Trillanes’ accusations that Del Rosario was ineffective and a hawk when dealing with the territorial dispute, Lacierda

pointed out that Del Rosario still enjoys the full trust and confidence of the President.

“The President was approached by Senator Trillanes who said that there is a way forward,” Lacierda said.

He said that the President listened to Trillanes’ suggestion as part of his policy to keep all options open, and that “it seems

there were minor successes.”The spokesperson added that

the President will not replace Del Rosario despite Trillanes’ very public criticisms of the DFA head.

“I can say categorically that Secretary Del Rosario has the trust and confidence of the President,” he said. “There is only one chief policymaker, and that is the President. And there is only one official line, and that is the Department of Foreign Affairs’. And China knows this.”

Trillanes only attended one executive session meeting of the Cabinet in July, which was when the government was discussing whether to send ships back to the Panatag Shoal.

Lacierda said he was unaware of reports that Trillanes, despite the sensitive nature of his assignment, had been giving off the record interviews to the media and volunteering his role as backchannel negotiator to China.

Gerald on his Quest for Sarah’s love: i’ve Done enough Fighting

IF he’s not in a relationship now, Gerald Anderson believes that God is still writing his love story. And he’s not in a hurry. Kumbaga like I said I’m very blessed to have the opportunity to share the beautiful moments na kasama ko siSarah and ‘yun lang ‘yon. No regrets. Sa bawat tama, sa bawat mali sa bawat failure,sa bawat success andami nating natutunan, (kaya) no regrets. Wala na ho kamingcommunication (ni Sarah).”

Pakiusap pa ni Gerald, “Nangyari na ho ang mga nangyari, kailangan ho nating tanggapin at move on.”

Sa mga umaasa raw na magkakaroon pa sila ng third movie ni Sarah, sinabi ni Gerald na wala raw silang magiging third movie sa ngayon. Kinunan din ng pahayag si Gerald sa mga sumisisi kay Mommy Divine na siya umanong dahilan kung bakit tinapos na nina Sarah at Gerald ang kanilang magandang ugnayan. “Bigyan natin ng respeto at privacy ang pamilya nila, si Sarah. No one deserves that. Wala tayong karapatan para mag-comment o magbigay ng ating… lalo na kung ang sama ng sasabihin natin. Sana sabay-sabay na ho tayong mag-move on and give everyone respect and privacy,pati na rin ho sa akin,” pakiusap niya.

When asked kung worth fighting for ba ang isang Sarah Geronimo ang sagot ni Gerald ay, “’Yung pagkatao ni Sarah is someone very special to me. Ang bait, genuine Ang bait talaga. ‘Yung friendship namin is sobrang worth keeping.” Pero may pahabol pa si Gerald nang sundutin ito ng tanong kung hindi ba worth fighting for si Sarah, ang mabilis na tugon ang aktor, “I’ve done enough fighting. We fight for reasons lahat tayo may dahilan.”

are all excited preparing for their baby Nate’s first birthday. They are also taking him to Singapore to meet his half-sisters, Sarah and Leila (daughters of Ogie with his ex-wife, Michelle van Eimeren).

“We will watch the F1 race, go to Universal Studios,” Ogie says. “The works! It will be the ultimate family bonding. My girls will be on break from school. They get to Skype with Nate but it’s the first time they will all meet face to face. I miss my girls’ kakulitan. They will always be my little girls in my eyes and heart.”

Even if Ogie’s kids come from different chapters in his life, he loves them equally.

Baron Geisler is slowly but surely cleaning up his act, post-rehab.

How does he manage to stay sober? “I surround myself with great people who are supportive,” he says. “I work out a lot and immerse myself in work.”

What’s a misconception about him that he wants to correct? “It’s hard to control what people think,” he sighs. “So I just move forward. I know who I am and the people who are close to me always remind me that I’m a sweet guy. Their thoughts matter more than those of strangers who don’t really know me.”

Baron is raving about his new film, “Pridyider.” He enthuses: “It’s not just a gross and scary film; it has humor and substance. I had a blast shooting the scene where we were submerged in water and mud.”

What are the staples in his fridge? “Eggs, milk, orange juice and kimchi,” he says.

Xian lim not hiding relationship with Kim Chiu

WALANG pagsidlan ng saya si Xian Lim nang tanggapin niya ang gold record award noong Linggo sa ASAP para sa kanyang debut album. Lubos naman ang kanyang pasasalamat sa mga tagahanga na talaga namang sumuporta sa kanya.

Hindi nga raw siya makapaniwala na dati ay napapanood lang niya ang mga singers na binibigyan ng awards pero ngayon ay isa na rin siya sa mga ito. “Siyempre hoping ako na maging platinum pa siya,” pagiging positibo ni Xian. “To be awarded is good. Ibig sabihin na-aapreciate nila ‘yung ginawa ko.”

Samantala, malapit na ring ipalabas ang susunod na teleserye ni Xian na Ina, Kapatid, Anak at ka-love team niya uli rito si Kim Chiu. Masaya nga raw siya na halos araw-araw silang nagkikita ni Kim dahil sa taping ng kanilang teleserye. “Lagi ko namang pinapasalamatan si Kim at congratulations din kay Kim dahil sobrang galing niya dito sa Ina, Kapatid, Anak,” papuri ni Xian.

Pagkatapos ng teleseryeng My Binondo Girl marami ang nag-isip na titigil na ang ingay ng team-up ng Kim-Xian dahil nagduda ang iba na for promo lang ito ng kanilang show. Subalit pinatunayan nina Xian at Kim na higit pa sa promo ang kanilang magandang pagtitinginan.

Pero lately daw ay hindi na nakakalabas ng dalawa dahil pareho silang abala sa kanilang mga trabaho. “Ngayon wala kasing time,” sagot ni Xian. “Hindi nagtutugma ‘yung schedule pero if there is time pwede naman.”

Nang kinumusta siya sa panliligaw niya kay Kim,

ang sagot ng binata, “Okay naman kami ni Kim.

Basta pakiramdam ko kay Kim special siyang tao all the time.”

Noong nakaraang Star Magic Ball ay magkasabay na dumating ang

dalawa at marami ang nakapansin sa kanilang

sweetness. Kaya naman marami ang nag-iisip na

baka nga may relasyon na ang dalawa. “Let people think what they

want to think, ‘yun lang ‘yon,” paliwanag ni Xian. “Wag nila sanang pangunahan. Kung anong nakikita nila, sila na bahala [mag-isip ng kung anong gusto nilang isipin]. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion.” Dagdag niya, basta ang usapan nila ni Kim ay naroon sila para sa isa’t isa para magtulungan.

2.What is estate tax? The federal estate tax is imposed on the taxable estate of a deceased person who is a U.S. citizen or a resident of the United States. Nonresident clients are taxed on property or assets located in the United States.

3.What is the “taxable” estate of the deceased person? It is his or her gross estate wherever located for a U.S citizen or resident less deductions. It includes not only property interests owned at death, but also certain lifetime transfers, and may include proceeds of a life insurance policy on the deceased person’s life.

Gross estate also includes the value of any property transferred within 3 years before death and any gift tax paid by the person or estate within 3 years of death.

Gross estate further includes retained interest for the benefit of the person in lifetime transfer of property.

4.What are the estate tax rate and estate tax exclusion amount? For 2012, the maximum estate tax rate is 35%, and the maximum estate tax exclusion rate is $5,120,000.00.

For 2013, the maximum estate tax rate is 55%, and the maximum estate tax exclusion rate is only $1,000.000.00. So, assignments to irrevocable life insurance trust (ILIT) of existing insurance policies will reduce the gross estate and estate tax on taxable estate over the estate tax exclusion amount.

5.Who owns the life insurance policy in an irrevocable life insurance trust (ILIT)?

Either through assignment of an existing life insurance policy to the Trustee of the ILIT, or the trustee of the ILIT buying the life insurance for the Settlor/Trustor, the ILIT owns the policy for the benefit of the

beneficiaries stated in the ILIT.6.Can loved ones own the insurance policy

rather than an ILIT? Yes, but this may create several problems: (1.) beneficiaries-loved ones may have their own estate planning problems that be aggravated by the increase in the value of their own estates by the amount of the insurance proceedings; and (2.) an ILIT can deal with issues of beneficiaries dying out of order and changes in their needs by giving the ILIT Trustee broad distribution discretion.

7.Who is The Settlor or Grantor of an ILIT? It is the insured of a life insurance policy that is the settlor or grantor of an ILIT.

8.Are the income, gift, and estate tax consequences of a transfer of an existing life insurance policy to an ILIT?

(1). A transfer or assignment of an existing life insurance policy to an ILIT without any adequate and full consideration is treated as a gift to the beneficiaries of the ILIT and subject to gift taxes, and to the $12,000 gift tax exclusion by the beneficiary having Crummey withdrawal power;

(2). The transfer will also result in taxable income, if the life insurance policy is subject to a loan in-excess of basis;

(3). The transfer will be subject to inclusion in the insured’s estate for estate tax purposes, if the insured transfer the policy within 3 years of death. But if the policy is less than 1 year old, a substitute application dated after the execution of the ILIT, showing the Trustee thereof as the original applicant and owner may be done, if possible. Even so, a substitute application does not change the fact that the policy was issued before the execution of the ILIT.

9.What is the taxable income of an ILIT? An ILIT whose only asset is life insurance policy will usually have no taxable income, before the life insurance policy matures. To avoid being taxed as Grantor Trust the ILIT should not use Trust income to pay insurance premiums on the file of the Grantor on the Grantor’s spouse.

No guts, no glory.They show lots of guts in pursuit of

glory. Every day on Eat, Bulaga!, they walk on the ramp with studied confidence, egged on by hosts Ryan Agoncillo and Solenn Heussaff (or Pauleen Luna), and then they boast that they are more talented and better-endowed than their lookalikes before they are made to sing or dance and show their “acting” mettle in a brief skit.

The search for Mr. Pogi has been going on and off for more than two decades now. Each of the aspirants is deadset on inheriting the “throne” once held by Jericho Rosales and then by Edgar Allan Guzman, two of the graduates who have become stars in their own right. Perhaps as a nod to Jericho, the logo shows him in silhouette, flashing a come-on smile with his chin framed by his thumb and index finger (a Mr. Pogi “trademark” or ID).

Scratch a Mr. Pogi wannabe and he has a sob story to tell just like Edgar Allan who, according to his manager Noel Ferrer, “joined the search to augment the family income since his father had died.”

Edgar Allan’s success story is perfect material for Charo Santos-Concio’s Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) or in Mel Tiangco’s soon-to-be-revived Magpakailanman. Or hasn’t it been

televised in other shows already?“Because he didn’t have money,”

continued Noel, “Edgar Allan would commute to the rehearsals and rely on ‘treats’ from his fellow contestants.”

Then, he won in 2006 and the big time beckoned.

To date, Edgar Allan has done several indies, including Astig, Imoral, Magdamag and Ligo Na U Lapit Na Me (for which he won Best Actor in the Cinemalaya and Golden Screen Awards) and some mainstream movies (Shake, Rattle & Roll 13 and Unofficially Yours). For this December’s Metro Filmfest, he is the lead actor in Pedrong Walang Takot episode of Lola Basyang.

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the FAMAS Awards, Edgar Allan received the Youth Achievement Award. He’s basking in the glowing reviews of his performance as the lead actor (with Eugene Domingo as lead actress) in the PETA staging of Bona, the classic Lino Brocka starring Nora Aunor and Phillip Salvador who will be special guests (together with other cast members of the movie) at the thanksgiving and recognition program during the play’s last night next Sunday, Sept. 23, at the PETA Theater in Quezon City.

Kapamilya Star happily married in Singapore

Something funny happened when my friend Raoul Tidalgo and I were in Singapore a few weeks ago. Raoul was there to visit his OFW-cousin and I to interview Daniel Dae Kim, one of the actors of the remade Hawaii Five-O (airing on AXN), featured a few Sundays ago in Conversations with Ricky Lo.

First on our agenda during our spare time was to take a quick look at the Fullerton Hotel in Marina Bay (a must-visit if you happen to be in Singapore) because we heard that it used to be a Post Office Building and, according to a report, the same company that rebuilt it into a posh, five-star hotel is thinking of doing the same to our own Post Office Building in Plaza Lawton which is now practically dormant.

Correction: What we discovered at Fullerton wasn’t really funny; it was a refreshing surprise.

At the Concierge, James Dean Monteverde and Arjay Pamintuan, two of the Filipinos in the Fullerton staff, very kindly escorted us to the awesome second floor accessible by a winding staircase. Along the way, they informed us that also in the hotel staff was an actress who used to be with

Kapamilya’s Star Magic. She wasn’t on duty that day and we reminded James Dean and Arjay to tell her that we could come back for her the next day.

She did show up, welcoming us into the hotel with a sweet bedimpled smile. She asked that we keep her name off the record because she was barely one week on the job (at the finance department) and hotel management might frown on her giving an interview.

She looked impressive in her business suit, blending beautifully with the hotel’s opulent ambience. She has a business degree obtained even while she was pursuing an acting career at the Kapamilya Network where, with her good looks and talent, she could have made it big had she been patient and persevering. But then, love got in the way and she willingly bade showbiz goodbye in favor of marriage (late last year). Her husband was working in Singapore and she gladly joined him.

“In my last teleserye,” she volunteered before she excused herself, “I played a kontrabida and I enjoyed it.”

There was no sign of regret in her pretty face lit up by a honeymooner glow.

Will the ‘Poe magic’ Bring Grace to the Senate?

Two weeks ago, Funfare wondered if Pres. Noynoy Aquino would be able to convince MTRCB chief Grace Poe-Llamanzares to run for senator under the ruling party in next year’s elections. Well, P-Noy did just that. Only a few days after Grace’s 44th birthday party last Sept. 2 (a day before her birthday, Sept. 3) where P-Noy announced that he had in mind “a higher position” for Grace, news came out that Grace had agreed to enter the political race. It means that when her term as head of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board expires this month, she’s bidding farewell to a job she has done so well (no controversy during her term, right?) and she will surely be missed by the MTRCB members who have become like family to her.

Of course, the enduring “Poe magic” will work in Grace’s favor. Already, her friends are coining catch phrases for her campaign such as “Ang inyong lingkod POE, Grace!” and “Sumasainyo POE, Grace!” Just as how some people doubted if tshe could tackle the herculean job of “censor,” with Grace proving them wrong, some people are wondering how she would fare as a senator. People who

know her very well (this one included) are convinced that Grace would make an intelligent senator and her credentials, aside from the “Poe magic,” would back her up.

elevator at GMA7 when we congratulated him. “What for?” he asked.

We told him his movie “Bwakaw” was chosen as the Philippine entry in the next Oscar Awards for the best foreign film category. He was visibly elated and thanked us. Contrary to reports that he’s sick, he looks so hale and healthy and didn’t even have an alalay with him.

“Bwakaw” producer Ferdie Lapus and director Jun Lana represented the movie in the recently concluded Toronto Filmfest. Next stop will be the New York Filmfest where stars Eddie Garcia and Armida Siguion Reyna will be attending. Then it will be shown in competition at the Hawaii International Filmfest. Ferdie Lapus posted on Facebook Hollywood Reporter’s glowing review of the film. Here are some quotes: “A captivating charmer from the Philippines, Bwakaw charts the gently humanizing process by which a sour gay curmudgeon opens himself up late in life to experience love and loss. Elevated by a performance to be treasured from national screen superstar Eddie Garcia, and equally winning work from a cute pooch, the film gracefully blends melodrama, broad and lower-key comedy, and honestly earned sentiment while making poignant observations about old age, emotional solitude, romantic longing and friendship.

QC Court releases P426-m Surety Bond in aBS-CBn

vS revillame CaseMANILA, Philippines—A Quezon

City court has allowed the release of the P426,917,646.96 surety bond posted earlier by TV host Willie Revillame in connection with a civil case lodged by network giant ABS-CBN two years ago.

Judge Alexander Balut of Regional Trial Court Branch 76 directed the discharge of the bond for being unnecessary and for being moot and academic.

Revillame, a former ABS-CBN talent, posted the bond in compliance with an October 2010 resolution issued by Branch 84 Judge Luisito Cortez for the TV host to post the P426 million bond to answer for any damages that might be incurred by ABS-CBN while he is hosting a new variety show on TV5.

In 2010, the host filed an P11-million damage suit against his old employer, asking the court to make a judicial confirmation of the end of his contract with ABS-CBN.

In response, the network slapped him with a P426-million counter-claim for allegedly reneging on his contract set to expire in 2011.

In a six-page order, Balut dismissed ABS-CBN’s application for preliminary injunction. He also considered as moot the injunction hearings set last October 7, 20, 21, 2011; November 10, 11, 17, 24 and 25, 2011 and December 1, 2011.

The court order was based on Revillame’s 2011 omnibus motion for the release of the surety bond, the cancellation of the injunction hearings and to dismiss the bid for preliminary injunction for being moot and academic.

In its counter-claim, ABS-CBN also sought a temporary restraining order against Revillame’s hosting of TV5′s “Willing Willie” show.

Cortez, who was then hearing the case, only required Revillame to post the surety bond.

Following the non-issuance of the TRO, the ABS-CBN asked Cortez to inhibit from the case, which was soon granted.

Balut also suspended the proceedings of the main case, pending finality of a Court of Appeal’s decision of the case between TV5 versus ABS-CBN and Makati City judge Joselito Villarosa, docketed as CA-G.R. SP No. 117063.

The ruling decision refers to the granting the petition for certiorari and prohibition filed by the ABC Development Corporation, Villarosa’s reversal of the Dec. 2 and 17, 2010 orders and the dismissal of the infringement case filed by ABS-CBN against TV5. Villarosa also made the preliminary injunction being asked by TV5 as permanent.

Didn’t she have any reluctance to do this delicate scene? “Noong una, kinakabahan ako, pati du’n sa kissing and bed scene with Tito Ronaldo Valdez,” she says at the victory party of “The Mistress.” “Pero alam ko namang kasama talaga ‘yun sa movie at kung ganito kaganda ang project, wala kang karapatan to say no. I was expecting nga, mas grabe pang ipagagawa sa’kin. ‘Yung scene kay John Lloyd, the usual reaction after he betrayed me is magagalit ka, sasampalin mo siya dahil niloko ka, but ibang naging reaction ni Sari (the character she plays) and I’m really proud of that scene.”

The movie earned P140 million in its first week of showing and is now extended in 200 theaters so it’s sure to earn more. Would she ever a mistress in real life? “Mahirap magsalita nang tapos as we don’t know what will

happen. But siyempre, I’d rather be the wife kasi mahirap ang position ng mistress, e very possessive ako.”

Derek’s loss, Johnn lloyd’s Gain

OLIVE Lamasan, the director of “The Mistress,” has made films about infidelity before like “Minsan, Minahal Kita” and “In the Name of Love” but this is the first time she takes the viewpoint of the mistress and it’s not a happy ending. Didn’t she get scared that viewers might not appreciate it that John Lloyd and Bea didn’t end up with each other in the film?

“Takot na takot nga ako as it’s not the usual Star Cinema ending,” she says. “But from Day 1, ‘yun na talaga ang ending na gusto namin ng scriptwriter, si Vanessa Valdez. I know it’s risky, but there’s no other way we can end the movie but like

this. When I pitched the movie kina Charo and Malou Santos, it’s on the condition na hindi puwedeng baguhin ang ending. E, nagandahan naman sila. At ngayon, yung mga nakapanood na ng movie, nagandahan din, so it’s a risk worth taking.”

She started shooting the movie with Derek Ramsay as the lead actor. Then Derek left ABS-CBN so he was replaced by John Lloyd. Would the movie be as successful if Derek played the part?

“We don’t know, but kung si Derek ang gumanap, ang personalidad niya ang lalabas sa movie, so it would be different as we would have adjusted the character to him. Pero iba talaga ang chemistry nina Bea at John Lloyd. We have scenes na kahit hindi mo idetalye, alam na nila ang gagawin nila. Kahit ina-adlib na lang nila, natural na natural pa rin ang dating.”

What kind of movie would she like to do next? “A period movie. I’d really want to try that.”

Filipinos were nominated for Emmys for their visual effects work in two US TV shows “Pan-Am” and “Touch.”

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN, Meliza Fermin and Tony Ocampo said they are proud to represent Filipinos at the Creative Arts Emmys.

One week before the primetime Emmys, the prestigious organization honors outstanding work featured on Hollywood’s best shows.

Walking alongside stars on the red carpet are other nominated choreographers, animators, musicians and other people who work behind the scenes.

Fermin previously won an Emmy for

her work in the TV show “Heroes.”“If you’re passionate about it, it doesn’t

feel like you’re working hard because you’re so into that you just get lost in your work, so it’s nice,” she said.

Ocampo said there are a growing number of Filipinos in the industry.

“Ah, madami na. The thing is you have to prove yourself eh. When you come here, you have to prove yourself. You can’t just come here and expect them to give you a work visa, a green card, you have to prove yourself talaga,” he said.

Ocampo has already received several trophies from the Visual Effects Society and nominations for his work in TV shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “CSI,” and “Walking Dead.”

Jessica Sanchez regrets having no Chance Of

visiting Bataan

MANILA, Philippines— Despite plans of staying in the Philippines a week longer than the rest of the finalists, “American Idol” Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez may not be able to visit her Filipino relatives in Samal, Bataan due to endorsement commitments including one for an apparel brand.

In an interview during a press conference on Sept. 18 at the Manila Hotel for the “American Idol Live! Tour 2012,” Sanchez said that she looks forward to learning about her “culture” and tasting a lot of “home-cooked [Filipino] food...sinigang na baboy,” but regrets that her schedule won’t allow her to personally touch base with her family here.

Earlier reports say that even if the visit to her mother’s hometown does not push through, Sanchez welcomes the possibility of meeting her townmates in her hotel room in Manila even if briefly.

Sanchez proudly reasserted her roots at the conference, saying “I am Filipino and I come from a Filipino family that was born and raised here so I learn a lot from them [about the culture].”

Asked if she knows of any Filipino artist or song, she names Sarah Geronimo and the song “Ikaw” by Sharon Cuneta. She cited the late Whitney Houston as her biggest musical influence.

She sees her visit to Manila as a “highlight” of her “Idol” experience especially since it’s the only Asian stop of the tour. After fulfilling her commitments here, Sanchez will return to Los Angeles to finish her debut album which she says is halfway done and will contain “a pop, urban, R&B sound” that may or may not follow in the vein of the teaser song released just a few weeks ago titled “Fairytale.”

The interview also served as opportunity for Sanchez to clarify rumors about her inclusion to a planned “Saigon” movie, the lead role of which

was played by Filipino actress Lea Salonga in Broadway back in the ‘90s.

“I’ve heard about the rumors but there have been no offers,” said she, who, likewise, refuted talks about her supposedly opening for Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming concert in Manila.

Sanchez did not talk about her romantic relationship with “American Idol” finalist DeAndre Brackensick. Though expected to sing some love songs in her debut album, Sanchez simply said that at her age, there are other messages apart from love that she can share such as her “dreams” and her “journey.”

“Don’t let anybody get in your way---believe in yourself and your dreams,” is her message to Filipinos.

Recalling her stint at the 2012 Democratic National Convention (DNC) for US President Barrack Obama held at Charlotte, North Carolina a few days ago, Sanchez confessed to have been “shivering” backstage from nervousness.

“I think I was as nervous there as when I sang in the finals night [on ‘Idol’],” she said.

Sanchez downplays any competition with any of the finalists and even with Phillip Phillips who eventually emerged as “Idol” champ. She said that being friends with them way before the elimination on the show began had paved the way for genuine friendship.

She confirmed that she has been in touch with other Filipino “Idol” finalists from past seasons, particularly Thia Megia and Jasmine Trias, who both openly supported Sanchez in the show.

“We keep in touch but not that much since all of us have been busy lately.”

MANILA, Philippines -- Actress Sharon Cuneta again had to defend herself when she reportedly referred to the new suitor of her daughter KC Concepcion as “lalaking-lalaki.”

That quip was published by the tabloid Bandera, and then picked up by its sister publication, the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

In that interview, Cuneta admitted that French photographer and filmmaker Pierre Emmanuel Plassart is her favorite among Concepcion’s suitors.

But apparently Cuneta said more in that interview.

“At ito pa ang nakakalokang pahayag ni Mega tungkol kay Pierre, ‘Lalaking-lalaki! Very nice boy. Pero hindi siya mama’s boy, ha! Gusto ko lang linawin na hindi siya babae,’” the Bandera report said.

“May pinatatamaan kaya si Mega sa mga sinabi niyang ito? Ano naman kaya ang masasabi diyan ng ex-boyfriend ni KC na si Piolo Pascual?”

The quote drew negative reactions on social media.

Bench pulled out all the stops for its Bench Universe fashion show held at The Arena last Thursday night, September 13. Its denim and underwear collection were showcased through collaborative efforts with top Filipino designers such as Michael Cinco, Randy Ortiz, Rajo Laurel, Cary Santiago, Ezra Santos, Joey Samson, and Furne On.

Kim Chiu was certainly a perfect choice for the opening act, wearing a glittering detachable gown as she walked onto the stage. She did not disappoint her fans by trading her long skirt for skimpy shorts and sky-high platform heels. It showed off her long flawless legs and lean frame. Joining her in that segment was Jake Cuenca who looked confident and proud with his body. He shocked the audience as he removed his underwear to reveal his thong briefs.

But it was Enchong Dee who made a powerful entrance as he appeared riding an aerial canoe and proceeded to climb down the stage with a harness. It was reminiscent of Richard Gomez who showed off his rowing skills for Bench’s first ever commercial back in the ‘90s. Enchong further wowed the audience with his gladiator-inspired look and sexy underwear.

For the futuristic presentation, Karylle made a surprisingly strong effect with her fierce attitude as she walked the ramp in her underwear and towering heels. It was certainly a different side of her, knowing that the singer-host doesn’t make it a habit to be the center of attention on and off cam. In the same vein, it suited Julia Montes to showcase girl power with her metal corset and skinny jeans.

Walang Hanggan rivals Coco Martin and Paulo Avelino also received lots of cheers from the crowd. Paulo even teased the audience as he pretended to pull down his briefs on stage. But while Paulo didn’t have qualms showing off his body, Coco was fully-clothed with wings attached for the finale. Although many were disappointed that he didn’t show up in his underwear, Coco still managed to get the loudest cheers from the crowd, who were probably avid viewers of his hit teleserye.

GMA Films’ entry to the Metro-Manila Filmfest, “Sossy Problems” (formerly “Conyo Problems”) has started shooting last week. The four actresses who play “sosyal” rich girls all falling for the same poor guy have been finally cast: Heart Evangelista, Bianca King, Solenn Heussaff and Rhian Ramos.

The movie is helmed by Andoy Ranay, who’s given this directorial break after his successful work in the hit GMA7 primetime soap, “One True Love.” Andoy says the actresses cast in his movie truly fit their roles. “Kasi mga sossy naman sila talaga,” he adds. “Sa set nga, Inglisan sila ng Inglisan kaya bagay talaga sila sa role.”

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino fans have obviously made an impression on Adam Levine, the front man of pop-rock band Maroon 5.

Starting off his day with an electrifying message to their band’s thousands of Pinoy fans, Levine posted on his official Twitter account, “Good morning Manila! Home of the most energetic, enthusiastic @maroon5 fans on earth! #OVEREXPOSEDWORLDTOUR!!!”

Marking this as their third visit to the country, the American band in the country for the Philippine leg of their “Overexposed World Tour.” They arrived on Sunday evening from South Korea.

In a taped interview aired on “TV Patrol” on Monday, the “Moves Like Jagger” singer lauded how Pinoys have especially made their support for the band felt through Twitter.

“Filipinos are probably the best and most supportive fans that we have—that’s why we keep going back here,” said he.

According to him, if there’s one song that he could dedicate for his Pinoy fans it would have to be his newest “favorite song” from their fourth studio album “Overexposed” called “Daylight.”

Meanwhile, aside from their one-night only sold-out concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum tonight, the hunk singer was also tapped as one of the international endorser of local clothing brand Bench.

On Monday, Levine had a meet & greet event for the brand as well as a photo shoot, which means that his eager fans can expect the chiseled singer’s body to grace giant billboards all over the metro soon.

Jim Paredes Believes OPm Will rise again By 2017

MANILA, Philippines — Many have given up on Original Pilipino Music but not APO Hiking Society member Jim Paredes.

Jim said that many good OPM songs are being written these days save that their time is yet to come. He gives a time frame of “3 to 5 years” when pressed on their imminent rise that will usher a new age in OPM history.

“Para lang yan yung nangyari sa film industry natin. Noong nagsawa yung tao sa formula na hain ng mainstream, dun nila napansin yung indie films. Ganyan din ang mangyayari sa OPM,” he said of the coming paradigm shift.

He advises the young crop of composers to not think of trends in creating their opuses. He also suggested a study of the Filipino psyche as well as the changes these might have undergone in recent years.

“Dati, halos lahat ng kanta ng Pinoy, tungkol sa may kasawian sa pag-ibig or aiming for an unreachable loved one. Baka naman kelangan na ng iba ding mga istorya or ibang attack on the usual subjects.”

He noted that some radio station’s decision to go for a niche market

had likely been detrimental to OPM, automatically excluding artists who do not fall under the “desired” genre.

Asked if he’d rather hear a new artist record a great original song than do a great version of an APO Hiking hit, Jim said, “If I have to choose one, I’d rather na mag-original siya.”

However, the singer-songwriter pointed out that there’s nothing wrong about doing one or two revivals so long as an artist gives justice to it and that he still records originals.

“Nasa originals ang buhay ng music industry.”

He also tells artists to make it big here first, before conquering the international scene. Jim cited K-pop as example, saying that the world only began taking notice of Korean music when their artists notched phenomenal album sales and radio airplay in their homeland.

Jim is certainly an authority on the subject. APO Hiking Society is one of the most iconic acts in history, with versions of their hits winning over a new generation of fans.

Jim will give music lovers a sample of some of these hits and more via his first solo concert, “Live, Laugh and Sing” to be held at Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila on Oct. 11.

“I want audience to experience me as a singer, songwriter and creative person post-APO. I want them to experience a Jim Paredes that will delight and surprise them,” he was quoted to have said in a release.

A production of Mauve Management and Entertainment, guest performers include Yeng Constantino, Noel Cabangon, Ebe Dancel and Jett Pangan with accompaniment by an orchestra.

“Live, Laugh and Sing” will also showcase photographs that Jim took, and some videos that were especially made for the event.

Twitter has erupted with posts of excitement over the band’s show.

A certain Claude Dee wrote, “Jessica Sanchez and the other ‘AI’ [American idol] finalists + Maroon 5. What a great week for fans in the Philippines!”

Ericka Villongco, one half of the duo Krissy and Ericka, wasn’t able to contain her joy at the thought of seeing the group later, posting, “AHHHH seeing Maroon 5 tonight!!!!! ^o^.”

Twitter user Jenny, as if voicing what thousands of Filipinas probably have in mind, boldly wrote, “Adam Levine, you are so cute omg. Marry me.”

User Jamie Brown, on the other hand, affirmed her adulation for the “Payphone” singer.

“I love almost every song on maroon 5’s recent album, and of course I love @adamlevine,” she wrote.
