Pins & Needles Crinkled Summer Scarf Tutorial We love to make scarves, because they are quick and simple to sew. Recently we were inspired to give the basic scarf some personality by adding some wrinkles...yes, wrinkles! Forget the iron and bring on lots of crinkles. WHAT YOU WILL NEED: • Fabric - approximately 1.5 - 2 yards - lightweight cotton, voile, chiffon or rayon - something that is not too heavy (you could also sew a bunch of scraps together) • Sewing thread to match • Pins • Rubber Bands • Dryer Bag

Pins & Needles Crinkled Summer Scarf Tutorial

We love to make scarves, because they are quick and simple to sew. Recently we were inspired to give the basic scarf some personality by adding some wrinkles...yes, wrinkles! Forget the iron and bring on lots of crinkles.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:• Fabric - approximately 1.5 - 2 yards - lightweight cotton, voile, chiffon or rayon - something that is not too heavy (you could also sew a bunch of scraps together)• Sewing thread to match• Pins• Rubber Bands• Dryer Bag

STEPS:

1. Cut two pieces of fabric into 12”X72” rectangles. (you can decide how wide and long you would like your scarf)

2. With right sides together pin and sew along the two long sides leaving both short ends open, but make

sure to leave approximately 1” - 2” unsewn at each end

3. Turn right side out and iron seams - you now have one long tube

4. Turn under the ends (the 1”- 2” that you did not sew) so that they are nice and neat and pin in place (you can press before sewing to make it easier) - topstitch each end

5. Take your completed scarf and thoroughly wet it under warm water - wring out excess water

6. Begin to twist the scarf - keep twisting until it is looks like a long rope

7. Fold the tightly wound scarf in half and then begin to twist more - you can even tie a few knots - the goal is to end up with something that looks like a tightly wound ball

8. You can also use some rubber bands to keep it together (similar to what you do when you tie dye)9. You will now want the scarf dry in this form by either air drying it or putting it in the dryer 10. It can take up to three days to air dry the scarf and if you choose to use the dryer we suggest sticking it in

a dryer bag so it stays intact.11. Once your scarf is dry you can unwind and you will see it has lots of wrinkles and a fun chic effect12. Wear it long or wrapped as many times as you would like!

* You can also use this method on an infinity scarf
