(Photo by Lori Cathey) BY LORI CATHEY The Gibson County Pioneers had to fight through adversity and bad weather this past week. Field conditions at the game time were wet, muddy and rainy. The Pioneers’ offense had trouble handling the slippery ball and was forced to turn the ball over on downs on their first possession. Halls proved to be a running team, quickly jumping out to a 21 -0 lead after scoring on their first three possessions. In the second quarter, Gibson County had a tough time moving the ball on the muddy field and had to punt on every possession. Halls moved the ball well in the second quarter by adding four more touchdowns to take a 45 to 0 lead at halftime. At the start of the third quarter, Halls put together seven plays and scored on a two-yard run. The game ended with a final score of 51-0 Pioneers loss. Defensive players for Gibson County were Tyler Cairnes with 2 tackles and Danny Evans with 1 tackle and 2 assists. Colton McMackin, Jordan Carpenter and Mitch Allen each had one assist. Offensively for the Pioneer Danny Evans had 8 carries for 8-yards and Jercolby Milan with 1 carry for 2- yards. Gibson County High School football team managers were named Pioneer Players of the Week. Becca Lee, Logan Cochran and Sarah Dodd, were recognized as a sign of appreciation for all they do to help the football program improve. See GCHS Scoreboard below sponsored by Watkins Lawn Service. The Pioneers’ next game is Friday, September 27 at 7:30 against Fulton County at Yates Field. It will be Gibson County’s homecoming and the homecoming presentations will be at 7 p.m. on the football field. The Falcons added one more touchdown and lead 40-8 at halftime. The second half opened up with the Pioneer defense forcing a fumble at the 47-yard line. The ball was recovered by Gibson County. After seven plays, Gibson County was looking at a fourth and 11 with 7:37 left in the third quarter. When Jr. Pioneer quarterback Lamberson connected with wide receiver Aubrey Perkins on a 47–yard pass for a touchdown. Austin Little converted the two- point play to make it 40 to 16 Lake County. With 5:54 left in the game, Jr High Pioneer Logan Alexander jumped up and snagged an interception at the 36-yard line. Lamberson completed a 15-yard pass to Caden Wylie for a first down. On the next play Gibson County running back Rico broke through for a 21-yard touchdown for Gibson County’s last score. Lake County scored a touchdown, a 20–yard run for a 46 to 24 final. Gibson County had 131 rushing yards and 105 passing yards for 236 total yards. Quarterback Payton Lamberson threw for 105 yards on 5 of 22 passing with one touchdown. Gibson County defense forced three turnovers. Pioneer Ozzy Rico was named the player of the week. Rico had a total of 64 yards with one touchdown and two point conversion against Lake Co. The Gibson County Pioneers had to fight through adversity and bad weather this past week. Field conditions at the game time were wet, muddy and rainy.

The Pioneers’ offense had trouble handling the slippery ball and was forced to turn the ball over on downs on their first possession. Halls proved to be a running team, quickly jumping out to a 21 -0 lead after scoring on their first three possessions.

In the second quarter, Gibson County had a tough time moving the ball on the muddy field and had to punt on every possession. Halls moved the ball well in the second quarter by adding four more touchdowns to take a 45 to 0 lead at halftime.

At the start of the third quarter, Halls put together seven plays and scored on a two-yard run. The game ended with a final score of 51-0 Pioneers loss.

Defensive players for

Gibson County were Tyler Cairnes with 2 tackles and Danny Evans with 1 tackle and 2 assists. Colton McMackin, Jordan Carpenter and Mitch Allen each had one assist. Offensively for the Pioneer Danny Evans had 8 carries for 8-yards and Jercolby Milan with 1 carry for 2-yards.

Gibson County High School football team managers were named Pioneer Players of the Week. Becca Lee, Logan

Gibson County Jr. High football lost 46 -24 to Lake County Thursday night at Gibson County High School.
