Lloyd Morgan . Past International President Lloyd Morgan of Tauranga, New Zealand, has died. He was elected third vice president at the 1976 International Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii, and served as president during 1979-80. Past President Morgan was a charter member of the Lower Hutt Lions Club, served in numerous capacities at the club and district levels, including Council Chairman of Multiple District 202, and was an international director in 1970-72. Among the many honors he received for his contribu- tions to the association was the Ambassador of Goodwill Award. He was also a Melvin Jones Fellow. At the completion of his term as international presi- dent, he was decorated by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. As patron of the Lloyd Morgan Lions Charitable Trust, set up in his honor in 1980, he helped raise millions of dollars for humanitarian causes in New Zealand and the South Pacific. Past President Morgan became part owner of a hotel in Lower Hutt in the early 1950s and eventually built a multi-hotel business. He was active on the Committee of Management for the Hotel Association of New Zealand and was a member of the Wellington Hotel Association. Past President Morgan is survived by his wife, Ngaire, two children, Larry and Deborah, and two grandchildren. This opportunity to have Lions Clubs International pre- sented on national television is one of the best and most inexpensive public relations endeavors ever used by lions. More than a billion viewers witnessed the parade last year. The event was truly a multiple district-wide effort, with Lions Clubs International dignitaries participating. Many Lions and leos from all over California and Nevada volunteered to help with the decoration of the Rose Parade float and, in fact, assisted with many other floats in the parade. The 2002 Rose Parade theme is "Good Times," and the Lions float will feature a giant St. Bernard ready for a rescue in a winter ski scene. The television announcers will include a background of Lions Clubs International and a brief rundown of Lions' service activities. Lions throughout the world are invited to participate by contacting the Lions Rose Float committee, or by vis- iting the Web site at www.lionsfloat.org. Hometown Day The first Wednesday of each December, LensCrafters stores set aside a morning to provide free eye exams and glasses to local residents in need as pre-determined by Lions and other charitable groups.
