Karingal Hub Education Week
We have been invited to participate in the Karingal Hub celebration ‘Education Week’ which will be held from Friday 19th May to Sunday 28th May. We will have an exhibit showcasing some of our students work from across the various year levels. Display boards will be located throughout the centre so if you are shopping at Karingal Hub please make sure you visit our display.
Dear Parents, Last week our Year Three and Year Five children sat for the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests. The children participated in tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. Questions were in multiple choice format or required a short written response for all tests except the Writing test, where children wrote a continuous text. NAPLAN is not a test of content. Instead, it tests skills in Literacy and Numeracy that are developed over time through the school curriculum. We treated NAPLAN test days as just another routine event on the school calendar. We continually reassured our children that NAPLAN tests were just one part of their school program, and urged them to simply do the best they could on the day. NAPLAN tests are one aspect of our assessment and reporting process, and do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each child’s performance. We receive the results much later in the year. The children should all be very happy with how they approached the NAPLAN assessments and we will inform the parents of results when the are returned later this year.

WHERE: IN THE RESOURCE CENTRE
We are once again running our Book Fair in conjunction with Education Week. There will be a large selection of books available for purchase, levelled at all ages and across a wide price range. Something for everyone! The theme for this year’s Fair is PIRATES so throughout the week there will be a focus on this topic across the school, including a Dress Up day on Tuesday 23rd May with a PIRATE focus! Children are invited to dress up as a pirate - from a book, a movie or maybe an imaginary pirate. Join in the fun - be as quirky, weird or strange as you like!
Please come along, buy some fabulous books, help us get more valuable resources for our school and encourage your child to enjoy reading ! We look forward to seeing you. Regards, Ros Carlton & Rachelle Kregor

Sausage Sizzle Saturday 17th June
We will be running a sausage sizzle on Saturday 17th June at Bunnings Frankston. We would love for everyone to come down and support the school on the day, but we will need volunteers to help us run it. Sign up notices have gone home asking for volunteers. Last year our sausage sizzle was a major success, with your help I’m sure this one will be too!
A massive thank you to our amazing parent helpers for organising, setting up and selling gifts at our recent Mother’s Day stall. All children were given the opportunity to choose and purchase gifts and we hope that all the special women in our children’s lives had a wonderful day.

in the Green Room
All welcome - Please join us for a cuppa and chat. Toddlers welcome :-)
Thanks to our wonderful KPG, we were able to purchase $1500 worth of new take home books at the end of last year. These books have
now been added to the take home boxes in the Prep, 1 and 2 classrooms. It is important that we take care of our resources, as they can be expensive to replace. Every year we lose a large number of take home books. This means that there are often not enough books to go round and children are having to read the same book multiple times. We would appreciate it if parents could help with this by ensuring that books are being returned to school. We understand that sometimes things can get mixed up so would also ask our families to regularly have a look through their shelves at home for any books with the Kingsley Park stamp. If you find any, please return them to your child's classroom teacher so that we can get them back into circulation.
Parent Feedback / Questions We aim to please so would love more feedback on how we can improve. There are feedback forms that you may complete at the office, these can be placed in the red letterbox labelled Parent Feedback. Are the new uniform tops mandated as of 2018? Response: Although we are adding new tops to our uniform supplies, along with new style jumpers/jackets, parents do not need to discard old styled uniform. We don’t wish to waste your money. Any school uniform can be worn until the wearers grow out of it, it may also be passed down to siblings for wearing. Some parents are allowing their children to play with and climb on the trees outside the music room area after school—please look after our trees. Response: Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Lots of love and care has gone in to fixing up that garden area and the poor lemon tree inside the tyre is being ruined. Please keep children off the trees and help look after our gardens. Please drop us a note, we would love to hear your thoughts and help make Kingsley Park the best it can be for our students.

This fortnight’s focus is
Getting Along Getting along means working well with teachers and classmates, resolving problems peacefully and contributing positively to the community. I can get along with other children, teachers and people in the community. When I am getting along:
I am a positive role model to people around me.
I show generosity and kindness.
I interact with people and show them respect.
I am helpful.
I demonstrate the best way to be a good friend, in the classroom and in the playground.
I am a friend to someone if they are alone at school.
I show manners wherever I go, especially when in school uniform.
I take pride in who I am, a Kingsley Park Kid.
Do you have a child beginning school in 2018?
Tours are being held now! Enrolments for 2018 are being taken
