  • Pitch for the Warriors Music VideoBilly Clayton

  • Chosen Track Our track is called Warriors by CoCo and the Butterfields, an independent group from Canterbury who formed in 2011. The song combines elements of Folk, Pop and Hip-Hop, resulting in the self exclaimed genre Fip Fok. Overall, the song is upbeat with a fun and outgoing vibe that presents the message of warriors being unafraid and courageous. This meant that we had to accompany it with a music video that was both exciting and gripping for our audience, thus, we came up with the fairy tale treatment.

  • Audience As Coco and the Butterfields are an unsigned English band, the audience are likely to be very much varied due to lack of specific promotion to certain demographics. This means that the audience are going to be varying in age and interests, but mostly between 21 45 year olds from England who are familiar with the Indie unsigned side of British music. Also, because the genre of the track combines various elements of various genres that attract separate demographics, we must ensure that our music video is out of the ordinary and can appeal to a wide-spread amount of people, therefore we choose a variety of locations, character costume, props and objects to engage all in our production.

  • The Storyline To fit in to the theme of heroism and excitement, as a group, we came up with the theme of a fairy tale based music video. First, we suggested we could set our video in one fairy tale to map out the traditional story line of this against the track, but eventually developed this to four fairy tales; Alice in Wonderland, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks. We felt it would be both fascinating and gripping to have one actor play the part of all four female protagonists, thus presenting one girls confusion as she finds herself in Wonderland before stumbling in to the story of Hansel and Gretel which takes her on a journey to find her grandmother in Little Red Riding Hood and ending in her falling asleep in the story of Goldilocks all as a result of drinking a mysterious looking beverage in her own garden. Upon our actors journey (played by Danielle Batterbee) she is accompanied by The Mad Hatter and later on, Hansel (both played by Billy Clayton) which adds to both her own and the audiences recognition of each fairy tale. Our video forms the ideology of a utopian society in which everything falls into place and seems just a bit to fixed for reality, which we felt was appropriate for a song about thriving for success and discovery.

  • Locations As a group we believe that Norwichs University of East Anglia would make a good primary location for our music video as it is made of vast fields, a large amount of woodland and a large lake surrounded by paths and docks which provides naturalistic imagery, corresponding to the tracks mentioning of hurricanes, roads and skies. We filmed two scenes here; Hansel & Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood. The use of a natural and woodland covered area such as the UEA Norwich was beneficial for the filming process and continuity of the video as each four scenes can be interpreted as one consistent journey in an outdoor environment. For the Alice in Wonderland scene, we decided to shoot at Norwichs Plantation garden; a Victorian garden hidden among Earlham Road with long pathways, bridges and flowers of every colour. Overall, it appears very bright and enchanting, thus being reflective of the locations used in modern and traditional adaptations of the story of Alice in Wonderland and adds variety to our music video, furthermore gripping our audience. The final location was for Goldilocks which was filmed in Chloes house. We made specific references to the story via shots of the three porridge bowls and the bed that Goldilocks falls asleep in, allowing our audience to understand which fairy tale has been presented.

  • Mise-En-Scene The Mise-En-Scene in our music video plays a significant part in familiarizing and gripping our audience. In the intro, a purple floral teacup is focused on via a close up with the label Drink Me this is a very significant prop as it is the cause of all means in our video and also acts as an intertextual reference to the tea party scene in Alice in Wonderland. Danielle has a black ribbon incorporated into her braid as the teacup is shown which acts as a foreseeing of the following scene in which the black ribbon becomes the bow upon Alices head. Close ups of lollipops, roses, candy bracelets and baskets are to follow which help to establish each story line and give our video the extra visual appeal it needs to entertain our audience.
