The two clubs are meeting for the first time in USL play and also for the first time since 2015, when the Hounds defeated the Rowdies by the score of 1-0 in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup. Currently in the midst of a five-game winless streak in league play, including three times shut out, the Hounds would be well served to look upon 2015 as a source of inspiration. Much like this season, the club flirted with .500 for a majority of the year before ripping off a five-match unbeaten streak to secure a playoff berth at the end of the year. At two games under, this iteration has some work to do, but at only one point out of the top-eight in the conference is still very much in the thick of the playoff race. If there’s one trend that needs to change and change quickly, it’s the lack of bite in the Hounds attack. After starting the year scoring a promising three goals in its season opener, the well for Pittsburgh has dried up considerably, with the club notching two or more tallies in a game only once since. Facing a Rowdies defense allowing less than one goal per game, but also without a clean sheet in league play since May 13, the Hounds face a stiff test at getting back in the win column. For simplicity’s sake, the club needs to find a way to finish. Creating chances at a more than competitive rate - 4.29 SOG/ game ranks a comfortable sixth in the East - the Hounds have seen only 22 percent of their shots on frame hit the back of the net. With the past four matches marked by strong efforts by three opposing keepers, as well as a sound defeat at the hands of Louisville, the Hounds are still in search of a much needed spark. The most likely candidates are forwards Corey Hertzog and Romeo Parkes. For Hertzog, he may be just be due for a goal, as his six goals still rank first on the team and he checks in at second in the USL in shots at 47. Parkes, meanwhile, tallied his first goal on June 10, and had at least a shot on goal in four-straight prior to the Louisville shutout. At 2-4-1 so far at home this season, Pittsburgh has yet to utilize its friendly confines on the Mon to its advantage. With nine home games remaining, registering a .500-or-better regular season record at Highmark Stadium bodes well for playoff hopes, as reflected in both 2013 (6-3-5) and 2015 (6-2- 6). As for 2014 (5-7-2) and 2016 (4-9-2)? Not so much. 2017 SCHEDULE & RECORD League Record: 4-6-4 Home: 2-4-1 • Away: 2-2-3 • Non-League Play: 0-1-0 MARCH Sat. 25 NEW YORK RED BULLS II YouTube T, 3-3 APRIL Sat. 1 FC CINCINNATI YouTube L, 0-1 Sat. 8 @Charleston Battery YouTube W, 2-1 Wed. 12 SAINT LOUIS FC YouTube L, 1-2 Sat. 15 @Charlotte Independence YouTube T, 1-1 Sat. 22 @Richmond Kickers YouTube L, 1-2 Sat. 29 HARRISBURG CITY ISLANDERS YouTube W, 1-0 MAY Wed. 3 TORONTO FC II ESPN3 W, 1-0 Sat. 13 @Ottawa Fury FC YouTube W, 1-0 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round Two Sat. 17 @Chicago FC United US Soccer L, 1-3 Sat. 20 LOUISVILLE CITY FC YouTube L, 0-1 Wed. 24 @Harrisburg City Islanders YouTube T, 0-0 JUNE Sat. 3 ORLANDO CITY B YouTube L, 1-2 Sat. 10 @Toronto FC II YouTube T, 1-1 Sat. 17 @Louisville City FC CW L, 0-3 Thur. 22 TAMPA BAY ROWDIES YouTube 7 pm JULY Tue. 4 CHARLOTTE INDEPENDENCE YouTube 7 pm Sat. 8 @Orlando City B YouTube 7:30 pm Sat. 15 @Bethlehem Steel FC YouTube 5 pm Sat. 22 @Rochester Rhinos YouTube 6:05 pm Wed. 26 CHARLESTON BATTERY YouTube 7 pm Sat. 29 @Tampa Bay Rowdies CW 7:30 pm AUGUST Sat. 5 RICHMOND KICKERS YouTube 7 pm Sat. 12 @Harrisburg City Islanders YouTube 7 pm Sat. 19 @Saint Louis FC YouTube 8:30 pm Sat. 26 BETHLEHEM STEEL FC YouTube 7 pm SEPTEMBER Sat. 2 @FC Cincinnati CW 4 pm Sat. 9 LOUISVILLE CITY FC YouTube 7 pm Sat. 16 ROCHESTER RHINOS YouTube 7 pm Sun. 24 @Bethlehem Steel FC YouTube 3 pm Sat. 30 @New York Red Bulls II YouTube 4 pm OCTOBER Sat. 7 ROCHESTER RHINOS YouTube 7 pm Sat. 14 OTTAWA FURY FC YouTube 7 pm 2017 Pittsburgh Riverhounds > riverhounds.com > @PghRiverhounds > #PGHvTBR LAST TIME OUT Last Game Summary Hounds 0, Louisville City FC 3 Game 14 Louisville Slugger Field June 17, 2017 INDIVIDUAL Category Riverhounds Opponent Points 4 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 4 - Cameron Lancaster, Louisville (6/17) 4 - Vincent Bezecourt, New York (3/25) Goals 2 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 2 - Cameron Lancaster, Louisville (6/17) 2 - Vincent Bezecourt, New York (3/25) Assists 1 - 2x; Marshall Hollingsworth (3/25 | 5/3) 2 - Wes Charpie, Saint Louis (4/12) 1 - 2x; Kevin Kerr (4/8 | 4/29) Shots 7 - Corey Hertzog vs. Orlando (6/3) 6 - Cameron Lancaster, Louisville (6/17) SOG 5 - Corey Hertzog vs. Orlando (6/3) 3 - four tied Saves 5 - Trey Mitchell vs. Louisville (5/20) 8 - Earl Edwards Jr., Orlando (6/3) TEAM Hounds High Hounds Low Category Opp High Opp Low 8 - vs. New York (3/25) 0 - four times Points 8 - two times 0 - four times 3 - vs. New York (3/25) 0 - four times Goals 3 - two times 0 - four times 2 - twice 0 - seven times Assists 2 - two times 0 - five times 19 - vs. Orlando (6/3) 6 - two times Shots 22 - at Louisville (6/17) 7 - vs. Orlando (6/3) 9 - vs. Orlando (6/3) 1 - at Louisville (6/17) SOG 7 - two times 2 - two times 5 - vs. Louisville (5/20) 0 - vs. Saint Louis (4/12) Saves 8 - vs. Orlando (6/3) 2 - five times 14 - at Charleston (4/8) 7 - vs. Louisville (5/20) Fouls 17 - two times 6 - at Richmond (4/22) SUPERLATIVES CLUB NOTABLES All-Time Leading Goal Scorer ......................................................................
