PTI has what I was looking for and I get to focus on my major.Marguerite D.Business Management

“American business accounts for nearly all the output, inventions, and innovations of our $8 billion economy – the most productive, competitive, economy in the world. Business employs fi ve out of sixworkers in the country – 107 million jobs. There is an ever greater gift bestowed on all Americans by private enterprise, and it can be summed up in a single word – opportunity.”

Thomas J. DonahuePresident and CEOU.S. Chamber of Commerce

Business students bring commerce to PTI with the Cup-A-Cabana coffee cart which sells the coffee fl avor of the day, lemonade, iced tea, fresh fruit, and packaged candy, nuts, and snacks.

“Overall employment of advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales managers is expected to increase by 13 percent through 2018. Job growth will be spurred by competition for a growing number of goods and services, both foreign and domestic, and the need to make one’s product or service stand out in the crowd.”

It’s working at a plush resort in an exotic, faraway

location or working at a busy hotel in a major

metropolitan city. It is conventions and meetings,

weddings and reunions, family vacations and

corporate travelers. It is all aspects of the travel,

lodging and food service industries.

It is a fast-paced career choice where you can move

up fast, meet interesting people from diverse cultures

and backgrounds, be part of a team, and enjoy the

satisfaction of helping others. It is a people-intensive

business that promises new challenges and new

adventures every day.

Landing an internship with Walt Disney World made me excited and nervous. When I got there I thought ‘Oh my goodness, I’m really going to do this.’Alissa K.Hospitality Management

Flexibility – hospitality skills move easily from one

hotel to another, from one city to another, even from

one country to another.

Transferability – you may be working at a luxury

hotel, a mid-town conference center, or a quaint bed

and breakfast. Or, you could choose to work at a dude

ranch, a spa, a mountain getaway, an all-inclusive

resort, a gaming facility, an entertainment complex, or

on a ship or a riverboat.

“ Job opportunities are expected to be best for people with good customer service skills and experience in the food service or hospitality industries. People with a college degree in hotel or hospitality management are expected to have better opportunities, particularly at upscale and luxury hotels.”

Occupational Outlook Handbook U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics2010-2011 edition

“Wage and salary jobs in food services and drinking places are expected to increase by 8 percent over the 2008 – 18 period. A growing population that increasingly prefers the convenience of eating out and having their meals prepared for them will contribute to job growth and a wider variety of employment settings in which to work.”

“ Employment of hotel, motel and resort desk clerks is expected to grow faster than the average. As developers open new hotels, jobs for hotel, motel and resort desk clerks should become available. In addition, jobs will be created as consumers begin traveling again after the hiatus brought on by the recent economic downturn.”

Occupational Outlook HandbookU.S. Department of Labor,Bureau of Labor Statistics2010-2011 edition

From event planning to meeting coordination, PTI hospitality students work with college departments to plan menus, order materials, chart seating arrangements, even serve hors d’oeuvres and act as goodwill ambassadors.
