BRUCE LORETTA ELWELL PRINCIPAL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (Ext. 4770) (Ext. 4732) March 31, 2017 Dear Parents, March was a very unusual weather month and we have a very busy April planned. Here are the events and important reminders for this month. Our last two days of NJ CAP are Monday, April 3 rd and Tuesday, April 4 hh . NJ CAP trains children self-protection strategies. The Norma School Book Fair opens on Monday, April 3 rd and runs through Wednesday, April 5 th . A Family Night at the Book Fair will be held on Wednesday, April 5th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Be on the look out… a schedule was sent home earlier this week. This is our special Book Fair where you “Buy One And Get One Free!” Wednesday, April 5 th is Pajama Day in celebration of our last day of Project D.A.R.E. Officer Fucci has been a wonderful addition to Norma’s staff and has discussed many age appropriate topics with our students. He will be missed! Thursday, April 6 th is Preschool and Kindergarten Round Up. Round Up is held by appointment only. If you have a student that will be a Preschooler or Kindergarten student next year that has not yet scheduled an appointment, please have them contact Norma’s School Office. There will be a Board of Education meeting on Thursday, April 6 th at 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 20 th at 7:00 PM, and Thursday, April 27 th at 7:00 PM. They will be held at A.P. Schalick High School in the Media Center. All community members are invited to attend. Friday, April 7 th is School Spirit Day! Be sure to wear your Norma shirts or your blue and white! Monday, April 10 th we will be holding our Bus Evacuation Drill. Students will be practicing exiting the bus during an emergency. Be sure to ask your children about this very important practice. We will be holding our “Super Reader Cub’s!” Pep Rally on Tuesday, April 11 th . Please continue to read with your child for this worthwhile event! There will be a PTO meeting at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, April 11 th at Olivet School. We want to encourage parents to attend! Wednesday, April 12 th is the Pre-School/PSD Field Trip to the Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton, NJ. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!!! This is a great educational day! There will be an Early Dismissal on Thursday, April 13th.We will also be holding our spring parties on this day. Please remember that we follow the half- day schedule on this day. Norma School will be CLOSED on Friday, April 14 th and Monday, April 17 th for Spring Break. School will REOPEN on Tuesday, April 18th. Wednesday, April 19 th is our Family Fun Night! This year’s theme will be “Superheroes”. Please mark your calendar for this fun evening. There will be more information coming out soon. Saturday, April 22 nd is Earth Day. A.P. Schalick’s National Honor Society students will be visiting Norma on Thursday, April 20th and completing an activity with our students. Ask your child about this day and why it is important! Tuesday, April 25 th is our Preschool Parent meeting at 3:45 P.M. The meeting will be held in the Norma Center Room # 3. This will be our last Preschool meeting for the year! We will be holding an assembly, “Eddie Eagle” on Wednesday, April 26 th . Students will learn about gun safety at this very worthwhile program. Arbor Day is Friday, April 28 th . Plant a tree in your yard or neighborhood with your child so that he or she learns the importance of taking care of the environment in which we live. Finally, Friday, April 28 th is the last school day of the month. Be sure to turn in your Reading Logs so that your books count for the month! Please remember to send your child to school with a jacket or sweatshirt and sneakers. As the weather continues to warm up, the students will be playing outside. It’s important for them to have the proper playground attire to avoid injuries and to keep warm. Sandals are not a good idea to wear on our mulch-covered playground! Happy Spring! Ms. Loretta L.
