REASONING

• We decided to base this Project on the Plan Ceibal from Uruguay which was a success in fighting technological retardation in the country. For this, we tried to adapt it to our social context in Mexico with all the indigenous peoples of the country as they are one of the most backwards in terms of technology use. This is to be taken as a pilot and, if successful in this scale, maybe it could be expanded to the whole country to bring all students’ digital competence knowledge to a high standard during their childhood so when they grow up, they have all the possibilities to become knowmads.

PROS• Specialised computers are cheaper to make than just regular

laptops.• Creates the basis of the knowledge for digital competences in

the children’s childhood.• Families will not pay extra for the equipment as the government

will provide them.• Families will spend less on school supplies and this also may

have a positive impact on the environment.• The indigenous peoples will reach the standard that is present in

the bigger cities.

Page 4: Plan Ceibal In Mexico

CONS• Agreements with the manufacturers have to be made in order to

mass produce the laptops.• Teachers will need training in the use of the technology in order

to teach the students.• May generate problems with the syndicate of teachers as some

may not want to improve.• As any piece of technology, the laptops will be prone to

accidents.• A education policy may need to be enacted in order to promote

the program.

CONCLUSION• As stated before, this will bring the indigenous people

up to the standard of the bigger cities in respect to digital competences as well as maybe using this as opportunity to keep learning.
