“ T H E C R O S S R O a D S O F T H E W O R L D ”Coined by poet Claude McKay, Lower Hill earned this nickname in recognition of its robust jazz scene and melting pot of nationalities. Lower Hill was the place to be in the early 1900’s as people packed venues on Centre and Wylie Avenue all night long.

Centre of Culture Centre of Opportunity Centre of Cultivation
The Centre of Culture is the front door to the Hill, highly visible and
with unique attractions and amenities that bring visitors from the two rapidly growing neighborhoods next door and from the region.
The Centre of Opportunity is the heart of the entrepreneurial community in
the Hill. Its strong character is built on the historic buildings that invite small
businesses, shops, cafes, galleries, and others to own or rent space.
The Centre of Cultivation is a place to learn and to do, where things are grown, restored,
and made. It is a place of production, where the do-it yourself spirit reigns, and all share in teaching and learning.

About the Contracting Team
MBE Development: When it comes to meeting our MBE goals Lower Hill Builders has a multitude of venues we use to ensure we are reaching as broad of a spectrum possible for MBE coverage. We gather lists for solicitations from multiple sources including:
• our internal database • Diversity Business Resource Center • GACO/GCAC - Procurement Technical Assistance Center • Small Business Administration • Small Business Development Centers • Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh
The use of public and private organizations exposes our project to a much larger database and demographic. We also conduct Outreach Events in which small businesses can attend and meet our team members face to face to discuss the project, review documents, and ask questions. Lower Hill Builders estimating team goes a step further and works with all MBEs by assisting with their estimates if there are any problems, missing areas, and breaks down scope and/or bid packages. We will develop “right sized” bid packages to provide better opportunities for smaller M/WBE firms to participate. We also encourage and help M/WBE firms form Joint Ventures with majority firms to better equip them to pursue the work. We can assist with project bonding through various small business bonding programs We will consider accelerated payment terms for M/WBE firms to assist them with project cash flow. Our Tri Venture has experience in the Lower Hill neighborhood with projects such as:
• EIC • Clearway Uptown Energy Plant • PPG Paints Arena • New Shop N Save • Kaufmann Auditorium at the Hill House • The Grenada Theater • Various Projects at Duquesne University
These projects help aid in the development and engage the residents of the Hill District and surrounding areas that assist in match and soft skills necessary to win contracts. We have trained and aided in the entry of many locals into the laborers, carpenters, bricklayer and drywall finishers unions.
