Planet EarthMovement of the CrustWhat are Landforms? How are Landforms Shaped?
CORE Has two layers: Inner Core: solid Outer Core: liquid
CRUST Surface layer- solid What we see
MANTLE The middle layer Filled with Magma or
melted rock, which is a hot, dense, slow moving liquid
CONTINENTAL DRIFT
The theory that the earth’s continental plates are moving.
PLATE TECTONICSThe theory that the
earths plates interact to produce mountains, trenches, earthquakes and volcanoes.
Pangea: When all of the Earth’s continents were once joined together.
Topography: The physical features of the land.
Landscape: The shape of the land together with its cover of vegetation, water, ice, and rock; it also includes the activities of humans and other animals.
Topography terms:▪ ELEVATION▪ Used to describe the height of a landform. It is
measured from the sea level.
▪ RELIEF▪ The difference in elevation between two points on
the earth’s surface
▪ GRADIANT▪ Refers to the steepness of slopes
▪ GEOLOGY▪ Refers to the types of rocks and the history of those
rocks.

Mountain building: (magma and movements of the earths crust)
▪ Volcanic Mountains, Dome Mountains, Fold Mountains, Fault Block Mountains
Weathering: is the gradual breaking down of solid rock by exposure to air, water, animals and plants.
Erosion: the process by which the land surface is sculpted and the weathered particles are carried away, or transported, by running water, tides, wind and glaciers.
Deposition: is the depositing of the weathered particles as sediment by the agents of erosion.
