3.1 LGAQ ANNUAL CONFERENCE - GOLD COAST, 18 - 20 OCTOBER 2016

Executive Summary:
Information has been received from the Local Government Association of Queensland Inc. (LGAQ) concerning the staging of the 120th Annual State Conference which is being hosted by the Council of the City of Gold Coast and held at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre at Broadbeach from 18 - 20 October 2016.
As part of its annual subscription to the LGAQ, the Council pays a Conference Levy which entitles it to be represented by two (2) delegates at the Annual Conference. The Conference Levy (Early Bird Registration) for this year is $1,430.00 per delegate (inclusive of GST). If the Council wishes to send 5 or more observers to the Conference the cost of registration is $1,320.00 per person, otherwise the cost is $1,430.00. Registrations must occur by 9 September 2016 or a late fee will apply, with the registration increasing to $1,630.00 per delegate/observer.
Recommendation:
“That Council appoint the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to represent it at the 120th Annual Conference of the Local Government Association of Queensland Inc. being held at the Gold Coast from 18 - 20 October 2016 and determine if it wishes to send any observer/s to the Conference, with the cost of attendance by the appointed delegates and any observer/s being met from the Budget allocation for Conferences in the General Management Program."
Background: The LGAQ has recently provided details of the 2016 Annual State Conference to be held on the Gold Boast from 18 - 20 October 2016.
As part of the Conference Program delegates are able to debate and vote on motions submitted by member Councils. As in previous years, the agenda will consist of two parts:
Part 1: Review of Policy Statement, and Part 2: Motions for consideration This year's conference theme, 'New World Order', reflects the economic and political upheaval that is impacting on the entire world. There has never been a more relevant theme.
