Planning to Build a Boat? Here’s How You Can do It

Giving a bit detailed information regarding plywood; these are synthetic timbers, which are

much stronger than their natural counterparts. In the plywood, timbers are glued at 90

degrees to each other. There are four main types of plywood available in the market,

namely A, B, C and D, each differing in their own built configuration, durability and

strength. Basically for boat building purpose, you can go for type A and B. C and D are

usually not ideal for boat building because they are comparatively less strong than the

other two types. Moreover these are made up of urea, formaldehyde and resin. You also

need a good marker, steel rulers, nails, a hammer, some glue (may be required) and a

drilling machine.

Step by step procedure on how to build

a boat:

After the plywood is selected, station and central lines

are drawn on the plywood. How to draw these lines?

Station lines are usually drawn 90 degrees to the centre

line.

After cutting the wood for every bend and curve of the boat, the wood

components of the boat are then glued and nailed. But since plywood is used it

is ideal to glue and stitch them using copper wires. It is because plywood is not

that thick to hold a nail rightly. In order to hold the joints together firmly, epoxy

resins are used.

You also need to paint it properly. In order to protect the boat from moisture and

dampening, it is required to paint it properly. Painting protects the wood from

the wrath of unwanted moisture and water. Moreover it would also give a

beautiful appeal to your own creation.
