Short History Establishment and Development of RT-1 Facility

1967 - start-up of RT facility construction

1971 – arrival of the fist trainload of SNF

1977 – put in operation of the first two

process lines

1984 – mastering of BN SNF reprocessing

1988 – start-up of the vitrification facility

1988 - put in operation of the third process

line

1996 – start-up of the HLW fractionation

Main Directions of RT-1 Development

Improvement of current production safety: equipment replacement for new and more safe one,

adoption of modern monitoring and control systems,

adoption of new promising processes.

Improvement of environment performances of the production:

upgrading of main SNF reprocessing procedures,

development of radioactive waste management processes : • startup of EP-500/5,

• construction of MLW cement solidification facility

• construction of solid waste handling facility.

Extension of reprocessed SNF range: АМB SNF from Beloyarsakaya NPP,

RBMK reactor SNF,

damaged SNF from nuclear submarines,

research reactor SNF,

spent fuel slugs from SHK and GHK industrial reactors.
