Plant Inspection Training
IntroductIon
Plant Inspection includes a wide range of testing procedures aimed at finding the status of the mechanical integrity of the
plant equipment under given operating conditions. The focus is primarily on stationary pressure equipment such as pressure
vessels, storage tanks, piping systems, pressure relief valves, as well as on rotating equipment, i.e. pumps, compressors,
turbines, etc.
This practical course is designed to enable a detailed understanding of the engineering knowledge required for in-service
process plant inspection, based on existing world accepted codes: API 510 / 570/ 574/ 576, etc. The course will explain
the principles and application of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) based on API 580, which serves for handling various types of
hazards and the efficient measures of the risk mitigation. Fitness for Service (FFS) analysis according to API 579 will also be
discussed and its usefulness will be emphasised as a tool in evaluating the remaining life of in-service equipment that has
been exposed to degradation mechanism (API 571)
Upon completion of this course, the delegates will learn:
• Codes and Standards recommended for inspection of process equipment
• Selection of appropriate inspection methodology and instrumentation
• Common process hazards analysis methods as included in RBI
• Procedure to apply Fitness for Service and determine remaining life of equipment
• The best way to prepare good and effective Inspection Report
objectIves
• Understanding of main aspects of plant inspection & plant safety
• Ability to select the best inspection method and instrumentation
• Knowledge on the mechanical structure integrity of process equipment
• Familiarity with hazards related to material degradation due to process fluids
• Experience with the Code guidelines and recommendations
traInIng Methodology
The seminar will be conducted along workshop principles with formal lectures and interactive examples, which will result
in the active participation of all delegates in discussions and teamwork. Real life examples will be selected to illustrate the
need for inspection and its efficient execution. The emphasis in the course will be on maintaining plant safety. There will be
ample opportunities for active, open discussion and sharing professional experiences on various safety issues. All course
materials will be provided.
organIsatIonal IMpact
On completion of this seminar the delegate will be able to analyse and select inspection methodologies employed within the
Company and instigate improvements where required.
The knowledge gained in this seminar will:
• Enable the delegate to perform inspection of various types of equipment
• Give the delegate confidence to carry out risk minimization analyses
• Enable measures to enhance equipment status for the given operating conditions
• Give better planning and running an effective inspection program
• Implement safety and risk-based inspections
personal IMpact
• Improved confidence when considering inspection results and interpretation
• Better understanding of how the inspection improves overall safety situation
• Better grasp of maintenance and instrumentation before incident occurs
• Improved personal knowledge of risk and hazard analysis
• Better ability to troubleshoot difficult and hazardous situations
Who should attend?
• Technical personnel included in Inspection activities
• Engineers who plan inspection frequency and the scope of inspection
• Technical personnel working in risk managements in operation & maintenance
• Operators and maintenance personnel
• Engineers, contractors, supervisors and managers, will benefit from this course.
