President’s Message:
APICS 2015/16 Program Year Close
As we close out the 2015/2016 year, APICS Cleveland has had another successful year. Membership continues to grow and the Board of Direc-tors is thriving. Please join as us on the upcoming plant tour as we cele-brate the completion of another productive year. As many of you know, we take the summer off to enjoy the pleasant weather and allocate time for recreation and vacations. We will start back up in the early fall begin-ning the 2016/2017 year with another tour. Supply chain management issues continue to change at a rapid pace. Make sure your skills stay current and updated by attending the monthly professional development meetings (PDMs) while continuing to attain and maintain APICS certifications.
Some of those changes can be found in the following research project by Michigan State University, conducted in partnership with the APICS Supply Chain Council. This research identified is what keeps supply chain man-agers up at night. Many of the challenges identified by participating executives are interrelated and overlapping and common problems were identified among the professionals. The six most common issues were:
1. Capacity/resource availability 2. Talent 3. Complexity 4. Threats/challenges 5. Compliance 6. Cost/purchasing issues.
To help you remain current and relevant, APICS is pleased to announce a new certification. The CLTD certifi-
cation stands for Certified in Logistics Transportation and Distribution. Over the summer and throughout the
early fall our instructors will begin preparing to roll out certification classes for upcoming 2016/2017 year. This
already adds to the existing APICS certifications in CSCP, CPIM, SCOR-P. etc.
Please remember what our April speaker, Mike DePaulo, stated about how to remain relevant:
Establish continuing education plan for yearly professional goals.
Apply value added projects that align with strategic goals of the company.
Consistently communicate with peers and management on trending issues.
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers, they have inside knowledge that may assist you.
Mike spoke about career empowerment and the fact that “you have to give to get”. Mike stated that you need
to volunteer with APICS in order to get back valuable skills. Please join in support our monthly meetings and
tours, network and take away valuable skills. Don’t wait until you are a victim of corporate downsizing, reduc-
tion in force, or any other name that can have a dramatic impact on your life. Over my career, I have seen this
far too often. Do not let this happen to you.
Have a great summer. Bob Dr. Robert Stoll APICS Cleveland Chapter [email protected]
