Plants and Christianity Freshly transplanted plants are in need of (at least) three life giving sources—

light and water from above as well as a connection to soil down below. This concept is fresh on my mind because I replanted 8 shrubs last weekend and have been working daily to ensure their survival. As a Christian, I would suggest we are in need of those exact three life giving sources. Light is God the Father, according to James 5:17. Water, according to John 4:10 is God the Son. Finally, soil represents a connection to the Body of Christ. It is about these life-giving sources that I would like to focus our attention for the remainder of the article.

God the Father is the source of light in our lives—"Every good gift and every

perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights,” James 5:17. Light is a source of energy that enables us to see what is around us. As we receive God’s light from above, He transfers His energy to us for life and living. As we see God’s light from above, we are enabled to see His world and the plans He has for us within it. It is at this point we grow to become His light in His world.

God the Son is the source of water from above. Talking to the Samaritan

woman, Jesus said in John 4:10, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” As we receive the living water from Jesus, his essential nutrients are transferred throughout our spirit and into our lives.

The Body of Christ is a Spirit-empowered people set out for the purpose of

connecting limb to limb, breathing life into one another (1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Hebrews 10:24–25). How does the Body of Christ carry out that work? The power source that is God the Spirit. The Greek word for Spirit could literally be translated as “Spirit, wind or breath.” Point being, God the Spirit is the breath of life breathed from God the Father (John 16:13–15) through the Apostles (1 Timothy 3:16–17) for the purpose of guiding Christians to all truth (John 16:13).

There is life in connection to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit.

The further we drift from Him, the more our lives begin to droop, drag, and deteriorate life plants without these life-giving sources. So be sure to connect to God this week in worship, fellowship, study, prayer, meditation, fasting, and evangelism and you will find the fullness of life as a Christian.
