Messagefrom the

Director

Did you know that July is Parks and Recreation Month? Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. If you didn’t know, we are excited

to celebrate these 30 years with you! In 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives officially mandated July as “Park and Recreation Month.” This month we will be featuring several special events to highlight the occasion and emphasize the important contribution Parks and Recreation makes in our community. Each activity, class, special event, park, playground and open space highlights the benefits you can enjoy with Isle of Wight County Parks and Recreation.

Summer Blast Summer Camp, located at Carrollton and Windsor Elementary Schools is the perfect place for your kids to enjoy 8 weeks of summer fun! A new addition this year is the Summer Blast Extended Camp that happens every Friday at Nike Park. There are so many programs and activities to participate in this fall, make sure you check your registration dates, you don’t want to miss a thing! After you have registered for Fall Soccer and Youth Basketball for the kids, don’t forget to take some time out for yourself, get together some friends and sign up for Adult Men’s and Co-ed Softball you will have a ball! Take in a Zumba class or join Fitness Bootcamp as a way to get healthy and have fun. As the weather changes I know you will be looking forward to taking a stroll through our walking trails at Nike Park and Fort Huger.

The 2015 Isle of Wight County Fair held Thursday September 17th thru Sunday, September 20th is some of the best down home fun you and your family can participate in! “Boots & Roots” is back and better than ever this year! This award winning event features Ag exhibits, motors sports, livestock, and National entertainment. With the additions of the BIRDMAN show featuring a variety of Birds performing amazing tricks and talents, the Start Dust Circus and Thrill show featuring motorcycle dare devils, a giant space wheel, performing dogs, juggling, aerialist, acrobats, and comedy routines you won’t have a minute to catch your breath.

We are offering you an opportunity to “FALL” in love with Parks and Recreation this season! You can also visit our parks and enjoy Movies in the Park at several locations and Family Bingo Night (check listing for dates and times). As we continue to renovate our spaces at Nike Park, beautify our community, and offer new programs we hope you will find more reasons to spend your leisure time with us.

Program: TetraBrazil Soccer CampDates: August 3-August 7, 2015

Location: Nike Park

Ages: 7-18 years old

Description: TetraBrazil Soccer Academy has been bringing Brazil-ian soccer expertise to American soccer players for over 10 years. TetraBrazil provide US players with an insight into what makes Brazil the most successful soccer playing nation in the world!

TetraBrazil camps and team clinics will inspire players to practice and improve their ball control, foot skills, and moves that Brazilian soccer is famous for. With our unique programs combining learning and fun players are grouped according to age and ability. From there we will challenge players to raise their game and reach new heights within an excellent learning environment.

The curriculum has been designed by our professional coaches to pro-vide teams, players, and coaches with the same expert level of training received by professional clubs in Brazil. These methods have been de-veloped for our camp programs to introduce the unique Brazilian Soccer style to your child and other communities around the United States.

Don’t miss out on this unique Brazilian Soccer experience!
