You will achieve outstanding results if you:
MARK THE PLAYLIST AND KEEP IT ALIVE. In general, this means playing the new material at least fifteen minutes per day, a minimum of five days per week, and making sure the rest of your playlist is played often enough so that your playing is fluent and expressive.
Review the new material as soon as you arrive home from your lesson, before bed, and the very next morning. During the rest of the week, be sure to play at the same time each day (and additionally as often as you like!)

Student Home Materials GuideFoundation Level 1
The Student Home Materials are an integral and crucial part of the entire learning process. Your teacher will provide additional guidance on their use.
Playlist and Notes Book (Bring this to every lesson) In the lesson, copy the notes exactly as your teacher has written them on the whiteboard. (This includes using capital letters, red or black pen, and not deviating or adding anything “extra”.) Before each home practice session, read the notes from your lesson. Check off the songs on the Playlist during each home practice session. Be sure to keep the Playlist “alive”.
The front and back covers illustrate the natural peaks, plateaus, and valleys of the long-term relationship. As our fundamental goal is to maximize the likelihood of acquiring and retaining music as a lifelong companion, it is recommended that you refer to the graph from time to time. Are you on a peak? On a plateau? In a valley?
Reference Book Do not ever write on the diagram pages. Be sure to use the diagram daily in the first week, at least once weekly thereafter, and be sure that you can demonstrate your understanding of it at any time.
Video Review only the assigned segments of the video, and always within the first two days of your lesson. The video may be reviewed as many times as needed throughout the week. Do not move ahead without the explicit permission of your teacher.
Note: By design, there is no video support for Variations and Arrangements.
Keypad The Keypad is an important tool for developing and maintaining the ability to play a large repertoire without the need for written music.
Laminate and mount your Keypad (at a local print shop) and use it during video viewing (even if the piano or keyboard is in close proximity to the video). Play the entire Playlist on the Keypad at least once a week.
It is a great idea to have an extra mounted Keypad in the car, as the most efficient and important practice session of the week is as soon as possible after the lesson. (Of course, it can also be used in the car at any other time.)
The Keypads are also handy when traveling.
Audio Recordings Listen to the audio recordings regularly, being sure to listen to the current piece and the next one during the week. Play along once you are able!
Music Book The Music Book will be used later during the Reading Program.
Evaluation Form Please fill out the evaluation form upon completion of Level 1. You will have regular and ongoing opportunities to evaluate your teacher, the program, and your progress. You are encouraged to keep open communication with your teacher throughout your relationship.
