• “As You Like It” is a Tragi-comedy _ By William Shakespeare

• Elements of Tragedy and Comedy

• Presence of Nature• Rosalind and Orlando,

Celia and Oliver, Phoebe and Silvius, and Audrey and Touchstone, Duke Senior, Duke Frederick, Duck Senior

• Sir Rowland De Bois has recently died.

• He passed his estate to his eldest son Oliver

• Oliver refused to give education and training to Orlando his (brother)

• Oliver challenge Charles for wrestling

• Duke Frederick exiled Duke Senior

• Duke Senior fled to the forest of Ardenne in voluntarily exile

• Duke Frederick allows Rosalind(Duke Senior’s daughter) to remain in court, because of her friendship with his own daughter Celia.

• On the day of wrestling Orlando and Charles fights

• Rosalind falls in love with Orlando• Orlando comes to know about Oliver’s plan

regarding his, from his faithful servant Adam• Duke Frederick banishes Rosalind from the court

and Celia accompanies her in the forest. They leaves with the Court Jester Touchstone.

Romeo and Juliet

• Star crossed Lover meettheir Tragic Doom

• Two families in Verona, Italy has caused much disruption, They are from the Capulet and Montague families

• Romeo and Juliet’s families are against their love

• Lovers are in love with each other but their families are against them, wanted them to marry with other persons

• Prince Escalus of Verona warns the two families that if the feud does not stop, the punishment will be death.

• Romeo, a Montague, enters the stage along with his friend and cousin, Benvolio

• Romeo has recently been denied the love of Rosaline

• At the Capulet feast, in disguises Romeo meets Juliet, the daughter of Capulet

• They instantly, they fall in love

• Romeo seeks the help of Friar Laurence, who agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet

• Later that afternoon, Tybalt, a nephew of Lady Capulet, enters and start fight with Romeo

• Tybalt kills Mercutio a friend of Romeo and Romeo in response, kills Tybalt, later all exit from Verona

• Romeo and Friar enters, Romeo in Friar Laurence's cell, tries to commit suicide

• Friar doesn’t allow him to commit suicide and convinces him to go and see Juliet to say goodbye to her

• Capulet enters and arranges for Juliet to marry Paris in three days

• Juliet denies, They exit and Juliet enters in the friar's cell, they exit and Juliet enters in the friar's cell

• He gives her a potion that will make it appear as though she is dead. She exits.

• She reenters the stage (now at home) and agrees to marry Paris

• The next morning, Nurse enters and finds Juliet in her bed, apparently dead

• The Capulets all enter with Paris and decide to have a funeral

• Romeo, who is in Mantua, enters.

• His servant Balthasar enters and tells Romeo that Juliet is dead.

• Balthasar exits

• Romeo doesn’t know much about the fake death of Juliet

• Romeo kills him, drinks the poison he bought, and dies

• Just as Juliet wakes up from the potion the friar gave her, the friar enters the tomb

• He hears noises and tries to persuade Juliet to leave with him.

• She refuses, sees Romeo dead next to her, stabs herself with Romeo's sword, and dies

• The Capulets, Montagues, and the Prince of Verona all enter the tomb

• Friar Laurence explains the story, and the Capulets and Montagues agree to end their family feud

• This is how this love story ends

Oedipus Rex- By Sophocles

• Oedipus the King also known by the Latin title Oedipus Rex, is an Athenian tragedy bySophocles

• Oedipus comes to know about the prophesy

• Oedipus warns Creon to know about the oracle, banishes him

• Jocasta and King Laius thinks of the theprophesy

• Jocasta reveals that the child was thrown

• King Laius was killed by the robbers, where three roads meets

• Oedipus thinks of him as the son of Meropeand Polybus the king of Corinth

• Odepus consults of an oracle of Appolo

• Every events happens according to the prophecy

• He solves the riddle of Sphinx, became the new king according to the rule

• According to the prophecy he will marry his mother and killed his father

• After that Oedipus discovers that Jocastahanged herself

• He picks golden brooches from her hair and blinds himself by pricking it in his own eyes

• He lives the life after getting blind

• So, as Oedipus wants to save his life by stopping further damage, but same things happen, and he cant win over the hard luck.

• Learning objective: No one can prevent the further damage, which is about to happen, its upon individual that if they believe in Luck, then anything can happen.
