I confess that I have much to be thankful for as your pastor. Moving into our Advent season for 2018 I am feeling a deep gratitude for the number of amazing accomplishments you have made in the course of this year. I am reminded of and can feel the words and message of Paul and Timothy to the Philippians:
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
But I also want to proclaim that in everything we have seen GOD has been the agent of change from inspiration to completion. We are nothing without God, and knowing this gives me cause to offer the true Thanksgiving that God is due. I join the Psalmist in his praise: But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of your faithful people. And I will hope in your name, for your name is good.
Truth is, friends, we should never keep such a witness to God’s amazing grace among ourselves. We live and exist in a world still struggling to do this life on their own. Some have heard, but many have yet to experience it. The challenge for us will be in our desire and passion to share this experience beyond our circles. So I am asking this of both you and me. Bear a witness to others this Advent and Christmas season that will speak of what God is doing for you at Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church. More specific, let’s make Christmas personal each Sunday and then pass it on. Tell someone in your world how God is giving you HOPE, how God is giving you LOVE, how God is giving you JOY, and how God is giving you PEACE. And in it all, be invitational. Invite someone to share in your experience. Remember….disciples making disciples.
We are in love with Amazon’s delivery to our door…..and Walmart’s curbside convenience….and yet, God has all along been in the business of making his gift very personal. As a matter of fact, His gift this Christmas will continue to be a HOME DELIVERY! God WITH us. Make room and invite a friend!
Grace and Peace,

At Christmasme, our hearts and minds long for
home. Some will journey home to gather with family and
friends. Some reflect on the memories of years gone by and
joyfully await their eternal home. But for all, Christmas is a
me to celebrate the birth of Christ.
“Good News From Home” combines fesve
original songs and beloved Christmas carols to
provide a down-home family Christmas
celebraon for the whole church family. This
meless musical brings joy to the reality of our
true home - at home with our Savior.
Join the Chancel Choir on Sunday, December
16th at the 9am Tradi)onal Worship Service.
Come celebrate and hear again the story of the
birth of our Savior.

Christmas Cantata!
Please join us on Sunday, December 9 at 5 PM as the children present their Christmas musical “It All Happened in the Country!” Everybody has heard the Christmas story, city kids and country kids, right? Wrong! There are lots of people out there ... maybe all around you ... who don't know the beautiful story of Jesus' birth. And even if they know the story, they need to be reminded of it at least every Christmas. Come and see how the greatest story ever told is shared, when least expected. Refreshments will be served following the program.
Don’t forget about the Toy Drive! We are collecting new, unwrapped toys to take to the children at Church Under a Bridge. There are collection bins in the Welcome Center, by the church office and in the Family Life Center. The last day to bring toys is Sunday, December 9th, so come see the play and bring a toy for a child in need! -Rani

PRUMC Youth Group Over the Thanksgiving break, many of our youth went to
Chris Reeder’s house to do a liOle yard work. She has a big
yard, and it takes a liOle help to keep it maintained. I am
very glad that we could be the help. These youth represent
Pleasant Retreat when they are out in our community, and
Pleasant Retreat has nurtured these youth to become fine
representaves. One of our youth invited a friend from
another church youth group to come help. I say this not to
single out anyone, but to tell what kind of an impression a
visitor might have of our church. I don’t want to speak for the young man, but I
would have to think that his impression of our church would be that we are
mission-minded, friendly and welcoming. When we can make that kind of
impression, even one person at a me, that’s how
Pleasant Retreat will sll be the
name synonymous with love in
our community for years to
come. I think that’s how Jesus
would want it.
