ADL’s Virtual Electric vehicles use an imaginative development of existing and proven hybrid technology designed to create Zero Emission buses that operate to the same demanding schedule as conventional diesels.
They match the gruelling work-cycle of a standard diesel bus but can run up to 80% of the time in electric mode.
ADL’s Virtual Electric uses a sophisticated on-board GPS system that switches off the engine in emission sensitive areas. It only restarts the engine when the bus enters other parts of the route.
The cost-effective solution to emission-free city transport
Operators and city authorities can programme when they want the bus to switch from hybrid to electric mode, with the driver operating the bus as normal.
The on board diesel engine will charge the battery when required - or the driver can top it up by using on-route inductive charging, so the bus doesn’t need to be taken out of service for lengthy periods to recharge the batteries.
The charging point is vandal and weather-proof, and is located beneath the road’s surface at strategic points.
