Shama Thrush are native to South and East Asia. They were introduced to the Hawaiian Islands in the early 1930’s and 1940’s. 3. Koloa (Hawaiian Duck) are endemic and can be found in lowland wetlands, river valleys, and streams. 4. Muscovy Ducks are native to Mexico, Central and South America. 5. Kōlea (Pacific Golden Plover) are migratory birds that mate in Alaska and spends its winters in Hawai‘i. 6. ‘Auku‘u ( Black-crowned Night Heron) are predatory birds native to Hawai‘i. 7. Junglefowl are in the Pheasant family and are found throughout the world. 8. Java Finch are native to Indonesia and can be found in open grasslands. 9. Japanese white-eye are small energetic songbirds introduced to Hawai‘i in 1937. 10. Pīkake ( Peafowl) are forest birds that nest on the ground. The male is called a peacock and the female is a peahen. 11. Red-whiskered Bulbul thrive in tropical climates. The distinctive crest and red whiskers makes them easy to identify. 12. Red-vented Bulbul have established wild populations on many Pacific Islands and are easily identified by its short crest. 13. Common Waxbill are native to sub Saharan Africa and have been introduced to many other regions of the world. 14. Common Myna are native to Asia. They are popular for their singing and “speaking” abilities. 15. Red-billed Leiothrix are native to Southern Asia and were imported to Hawai‘i in the early 1900’s. 16. Cattle Egrets are members of the Heron family and can be found in tropical and warm temperate zones. 17. Zebra Doves are native to Southeast Asia and were introduced to Hawai‘i in 1922. 18. Spotted Turtle Doves are pigeons that like tropical climates and can be found throughout the world. 19. Red-Crested Cardinals are small South American birds that feed on insects, rice, and fruit. 20.
