GMS (Georgia Military Scholarship)- Georgia Military Scholarship Information Page

The GMS is a $70,000 full-ride scholarship and it is only available at The University of North Georgia (UNG) Or Georgia Military College. It requires students to commission as a second lieutenant in the Georgia Army National Guard after finishing college. It pays 100% of college costs, including; room, meals, tuition, fees, uniforms and books. In addition to the scholarship benefits, students who are offered this scholarship will make about $40,000 in pay and benefits over their four years in college. After commissioning, Guard lieutenants start at about $7,500 per year for training one weekend per month and two weeks during the summer. Students do not have to enlist in the Guard prior to applying for the scholarship. However, they must enlist prior to 1 August 2016. To be eligible for the Gates Millennium Scholars

Program students must:

Be African American, American

Indian/Alaska Native, Asian

American/Pacific Islander or Hispanic

American; Be Citizens, legal permanent residents or

nationals of the United States; Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on an

unweighted 4.0 scale or earned a GED; Have demonstrated leadership abilities

through participation in community

service, extracurricular or other activities; Meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria; Enroll for the first time at a U.S. located ,

accredited college or university (with the

exception of students concurrently

pursuing a high school diploma) in the fall

as a full-time, degree seeking, first year

student; Have completed and submitted their

application by the deadline; and Have the following forms completed and

submitted by the deadline on their behalf: o A Nominator Form-an evaluation

of the student's academic record,

and; o A Recommender Form- an

evaluation of the student's

community service and

leadership activities.

Have a minimum SAT score of

1250 (combined Critical Reading and

Math) or an ACT Composite Score of 28.

Submit a letter or recommendation from a

teacher or school counselor (this may be

submitted with your application for

admission).

Submit a resume of activities, awards,

leadership roles, etc. (this may be

submitted with your application for

admission).

Participate in the entire day-long competition.

Once a student has submitted all required

materials, the reviewing committee will

select a limited number of students to

attend the completion.

The competition includes a personal interview with

Georgia College faculty members and a class

discussion with faculty and other student

competitors. You'll also have an opportunity to meet

previous scholarship recipients, fellow prospective

students and a chance to tour campus.

The Horatio Alger Georgia Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the State of Georgia (preference given to students in Catoosa and Walker counties) who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education. To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger Georgia Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in Georgia; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2015 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation

Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)

Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
