Background+Study Level”
2021.6.30
Theme
Shanghai Summer School (SSS) 2021 is sponsored by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and hosted by Tongji University College of Design and Innovation(D&I).
As a pioneering social practice in D&I, the project of Next Innovation Creativity Entrepreneurship Community deeply integrates design and community to create a prototype for future life.
On this basis, SSS 2021 expects to organize students from colleges in China and Europe to jointly build future urban smart scenes. It encourages students to design future smart service modules ranging from smart retailing, catering, travel, living, to fashion using AI algorithms and CityScope methodology through different fields of clothing, foods, housing and transportation. Based on Unity and Roblox platforms, SSS 2021 also encourages students to simulate offline space and to build smart renewal platforms.
Themed on the 3S (Smart Service System) design, SSS 2021 aims to create a NICE community in the context of global challenges and to actively respond to it through full use of modular methods, exploring the possibility to achieve social harmony and inclusiveness.
Topics
SSS 2021 will focus on service modules in urban public spaces and will delve into the following TOPICS:
SERVICEHow do we upgrade traditional service mode into Smart Service System?
SMARTModular design and research on underlying AI algorithm
How to use algorithms to optimize interaction based on urban spatial big data to form smart site selection?
SYSTEMSmart Service System ? How to construct Smart Service System through CityScope methodology?
How to monitor and define the reverse impact of smart modules on urban spatial traffic data?
GAME PLATFORMSmart Service System ? How to use the game platform to construct the Smart Service System?
How to design the process of intelligent site selection and the urban smart service modules as a video game based on urban big data, thereby attracting more users to participate in site selection optimization decisions ?
Design scenarios (Site choices)
City of Shanghai: Chifeng Road, The Bund, Yu Yuan Garden, Xintiandi.
Overseas regions: European students participating online are free to choose the landmark location of their country/city as the design scenarios.
Chifeng Road is one of the roads circling Tongji University, and it is now the main scenarios for NICE2035 Living Line, an innovation project which endeavors to explore the future life prototype using design-driven innovation, with the joint efforts from the local government, university, and enterprises, equipped with new technology such as AI.
Design Requirements
1. Based on concern of global urban renewal demandand logistics, the module size should be within the range of 1-2 standard containers;
2. The design platform should be based on Unity/Roblox;
3. The design plan should include but is not limitedto intelligent module design, service design, and business model design. It can be initiated from the perspectives of interaction design, environment design, product design, and service design.
