American Lutheran Church will be serving Lunch on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at11:30 at The Banquet, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 900 East 8th Street. Approximately375-400 people will be served. This is an opportunity for volunteers to provide,prepare and serve a meal to people living on limited means in Sioux Falls. Yourvolunteer help will be needed to help prepare and serve the food.

*Volunteers are done around 1 pm

Sign-up sheets will be available in the back of the church. The volunteers serving the lunchmeal will meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. and car pool to Sioux Falls. There are limited jobs forchildren under the age of 13 but all children are welcome to come with adult supervision.

Bicycling SafetyBicycling is one of the best ways to stay in shape, plus

ŝƚ�ƐĂǀ ĞƐ�ŽŶ�ŐĂƐ�ĂŶĚ�ƌĞĚƵĐĞƐ�ƉŽůůƵƟŽŶ ��Ƶƚ�ƚŚĞƌĞ�ĂƌĞ�hazards when riding our bikes, and we should know the‘rules of the road,’ to stay safe.

We share the road with motor vehicles, so we need toknow what hazards are present so we can protectourselves. “Use your head, wear a helmet.” Wearing aŚĞůŵĞƚ�ŝƐ�ƚŚĞ�ƐŝŶŐůĞ�ŵŽƐƚ�Ğī ĞĐƟǀ Ğ�ǁ ĂLJ�ƚŽ�ƌĞĚƵĐĞ�ŚĞĂĚ�injury and death from bicycle accidents.

Cyclists should ride single file in the ĚŝƌĞĐƟŽŶ�ŽĨ�ƚŚĞ�traffic. Ride over to the right as far as you can.

Know what your bicycle is capable of doing. AlwaysŬĞĞƉ�LJŽƵƌ�ďŝŬĞ�ŝŶ�ŐŽŽĚ�ǁ ŽƌŬŝŶŐ�ŽƌĚĞƌ�ĐŚĞĐŬ�ƚŚĞ�ƟƌĞƐ �make sure the brakes work, etc.

Opportunities for Involvement and Service

** SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT **A Special Congregational Meeting is scheduled for 11:15 AM on Sunday, June 18 to vote on

approving funds to conduct a capital fundraising campaign and perform preliminary architecturalactivities for the proposed church remodeling project. Because of the critical nature of this project the

Church Council asks that the members of American Lutheran Church please make attending thismeeting a priority. For those individuals unable to attend this meeting, absentee ballots will be

available prior to the meeting (see details below).

Motion on the Remodeling Project for Congregational Meeting:The motion is to approve expenditures to conduct a capital fund raising campaign and performpreliminary architectural activities for the proposed remodeling project as itemized below. Themonies for this expenditure will primarily come from the church building fund. The remodelingproject currently has a preliminary cost of $2.5M with a finalized amount for the project to beavailable at the time of the campaign kick-off. The remodeling project will not commence until bothof the following criteria are met: 1) at least 60% of the cost of the project has been raised through cashdonations and pledges that have been committed to be given over a three year period, and 2) approvalto proceed with the project is made at a second Special Congregational Meeting to be scheduled at afuture date.

Campaign consultant - $44,500

Campaign expenses (consultant expenses, office supplies, postage, etc.) - $15,500

Soil borings - $3,000

Site survey - $4,000

Elevation drawings, site plan, views of the proposed addition, 3D color rendering - $7,500

Reapplication of permit with city - $500

Sum Total of Expenditures - $75,000

Absentee Ballot ProvisionThe church member can receive an absentee ballot at the church during regular business hours of8:00am to 12:00PM, 1:00PM TO 4:00 PM from June 5th to June 9th and June 12th thru June16th. Said ballot shall be checked and put into a blank sealed envelope in the presence of thesecretary Jessica or other office staff member who will collect said ballots and write down themember's name to alleviate duplicates. The collected ballots will be counted by the Church Councilat the June 18th meeting of the Council.
