Thecampaign was initiated by the late DrKate Granger and her husband, ChrisPointon. Kate was cared for by St Gemma’sHospice Leeds during the latter stages ofher illness until her death on 23 July2016. To commemorate the 40thanniversary of the founding of StGemma’s Hospice, the award-winningplaywright, Brian Daniels, wascommissioned to write a play about Kateand Chris’s journey, before, during andafter Kate’s cancer diagnosis. The play tells the story of personalheartbreak, resolve and determination to

make the world of healthcare a better place. You will laugh, youwill cry but most importantly you will never forget that it’s thelittle things that make a difference.

Rarely did he ever venture intothe commercial world and, when he did,he always regretted it! He is, first and

foremost, a fundraiser.Platform speaker, teacher and consultant, Stephen also providescreative and strategic support to charities worldwide. He has aspecial interest in the way charities treat, or often sadly, mistreat,their supporters. He is a visiting Professor for Plymouth University’s HartsookCentre for Sustainable Philanthropy and trustee of developmentagency VSO. Stephen writes in the UK sector press and is arecipient of the Institute of Fundraising’s Lifetime ContributionAward. His first book How to love your donors…to death waspublished in 2015 and, more recently, he has contributed to theworld’s definitive anthology on legacy marketing.

Cheshire. Home to Lewis Carroll and his magical Alice in

Wonderland. We invite you to join several hundred fellow

hospice fundraisers on a journey to explore the mad crazy world

of fundraising. We will be showcasing inspirational fundraising

ideas, sharing great practice and gleaning hits and tips from our

industry gurus. Our aim with conference 2019 is for you to return

to your hospice with at least one fantastic idea, solution or

understanding of our manic but rewarding work. We want you to

return to your hospice with that one little bit of magic!

These terms and conditions apply to bookings made bydelegates wishing to attend the annual conference organisedby the National Association of Hospice Fundraisers (NAHF)and are subject to review from time to time.

1. PaymentsAll bookings made prior to the conference must be paid in full toguarantee registration. Once payment has been received, an emailconfirmation and a receipted invoice will be sent. If payment isnot made at the time of booking, registration will be provisional.Bookings received less than two weeks before the conference datecan only be paid online.

2. Early Bird RateIn order to qualify for any ‘early bird’ rates, booking and paymentmust be received before the deadline date listed in the conferencemarketing material.

3. Substitutions & Cancellations Delegates may nominate an alternative person from theirorganisation to attend up to 10 working days prior to the start ofthe event, at no extra charge. Should substitution not be possible,refunds will apply as follows: 8 to 12 weeks prior to start of event: 50% of the delegate fee 2 to 8 weeks prior to start of event: 25% of the delegate fee 2 weeks or less prior to start of event: no refundAll substitutions and cancellations must be received in writing tothe conference organiser. Any delegates who do not arrive, or whodepart early will not be eligible for any refund.

4. AccommodationPriority for accommodation at the main conference venue will begiven on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability.Should the main venue not have sufficient rooms toaccommodate all delegates an alternative hotel will be sought. Inthe unlikely event of no alternative being available delegates willbe advised and a solution agreed.

5. Alterations to Programme -Cancellation/Postponement of Event1. NAHF reserves the right to make alterations to the conferenceprogramme, venue and timings.2. In the unlikely event of the programme being cancelled byNAHF, a full refund will be made. Liability will be limited to theamount of the fee paid by the delegate.3. In the event of it being found necessary, for whatever reason,that the conference is being postponed or the dates beingchanged, the organisers shall not be liable for any expenditure,damage or loss incurred by the delegate.

6. Speakers, Workshop Facilitators and ExhibitorsViews expressed by speakers and workshop facilitators are theirown. NAHF cannot accept liability for advice given, or viewsexpressed, by any speaker or workshop facilitator at theconference or in any material provided to delegates. Exhibitorattendance does not constitute an endorsement of such companyor supplier by NAHF. Nor does NAHF accept any responsibilityfor any business undertaken with any exhibitor.

7. Photography & Filming For promotional purposes, there may be a professionalphotographer and video production taking place during theconference. Delegates who do not wish to be filmed or recordedshould advise the photographer or video technicians directly.

8. TravelNAHF would appreciate travel arrangements being madewherever possible to ensure that delegates remain at conferenceuntil the close of business.

We have a varied selection of workshops over the two days of our 2019 conference. Here is some information to help you decideon which sessions to choose.

Learn how St Luke’s Cheshire Hospicecreated AT30 gin™ with the support of RDW (wine merchants and TRCreative). Follow thewhirlwind that saw AT30 gin sell out in less than 6 weeks and hear how it created bothincome and new relationships for the hospice. A chance to taste from the last remainingbottle and discover how AT30 (the journey continues) gin will be back again in 2019.

FOCUS ON FUNDRAISING FROM THE COMMUNITYFacilitator: Gill Jolley, Achieve Consultants Ltd.Subject Area: CommunityAudience Level: Beginners & IntermediateYour job is to fundraise from the community but, at times, this can feel totally overwhelming.There’s such a lot of ‘community’ out there in your Hospice’s catchment area! This sessionwill help you to have some focus and consider what segments in the community areappropriate for different activities and help you not just to be reactive but proactive as well as.

You can excite and inspire your supporters, build on donor numbers,volunteers, and cash donations. Explore hidden pathways leading to further community,legacy, corporate and regular giving fundraising. Join us for a unique insight into one of theUK's most successful hospice Open Garden schemes. In 9 years the scheme moved from£27,000 in 2010 & 2011 (combined) to £128,500 in 2017 & 2018 (combined).

1F. GRANTS & TRUSTS Facilitator: Claire Warner ConsultingSubject Area:MiscellaneousAudience Level: All levelsFoundation grant-making in the UK is now at a record £2.7 billion. The UK has nearly13,000 grant-making foundations, which come in all shapes and sizes, offering support tocauses ranging from research on the human genome to repairing village halls. However,with competition for these funds also being at a record high, how do you identify who youcan approach? And when you've identified them, what do you ask for and how? And howdo you maximise your chances of success?This session offers answers to all of the above and provides useful links to other resources.

Workshop 2. Monday 25th March 2019, 2.20pm2A. DANCE YOURSELF TO PROFITFacilitator:Maria Passarello & Grace Wood, Bolton HospiceSubject Area: EventsAudience Level: Beginners & IntermediateMaria and Grace from Bolton Hospice will be sharing the success of their Strictly Learn toDance event, including how they have grown net income from £15,000 in 2013 to £52,000in 2018. They’ll reveal their top tips for making the most of this event (and the pitfalls toavoid!), for anyone thinking of introducing Strictly to their fundraising calendar, orwanting to take their event income up a notch.

2B. GIN & JAMMIESFacilitator: Heather MansonSubject Area: Events and CommunityAudience Level: All levelsGin & Jammies was the brainchild of Rhona Baillie, CEO of The Prince & Princess of WalesHospice. This fun-filled day saw 250 ladies of Glasgow come out in their best jammies andenjoy an afternoon of food, fashion and most importantly, gin! Come to this inspiringsession where Heather Manson, Director of Fundraising will take us through the journey ofthis innovative new event and how it led us to our spin-off campaign ‘Gin & Jammies atHome in our community.

2C. CAPITAL APPEALSFacilitator: Ash Gilbert, Pebble BeachSubject Area: CorporateAudience Level: All levelsBuilding a Dream: Insights from 10 years of Capital Appeal Fundraising for HospicesAs the nature of hospice care changes, many hospices are finding their premises no longermeet the needs of their community. A new build is a one-off chance to raise money,awareness and can be a springboard into stronger revenue fundraising. Pebblebeach, theUK’s leading hospice fundraising agency, have been part of numerous capital appeals overthe last 10 years. In this session Ash Gilbert will look at some highs (and lows) and shareexperiences that will help you plan and deliver your capital campaign.

2D. MAXIMISE YOUR BRANDFacilitator: Lynsey Edwards & Mike Lawson, TR CreativeSubject Area: MediaAudience Level: All levelsThis workshop will explore the importance of outlining a strong brand strategy, thenutilising digital marketing to put the newly defined messages out in the public domain, inorder to increase hospice income.Outlining clearly defined messages to answer questions such as, what is the problem you’retrying to fix and why does that matter now?We will show a variety of case studies of large charity rebrands, discuss their websites andcommunications and highlight areas that can be applied to smaller hospices.Finally we will explain how social media can be utilised to share these newly definedmessages in highly targeted ways, by maximising facebook and Instagram advertising.

2E. HOW TO CREATE AN EMPOWERED, ACTION-TAKING CULTUREFacilitator: Rob Wood, Brightspot FundraisingSubject Area: LeadershipAudience Level:ManagementThe world we operate in is completely different to the 20th Century - and relentlesstechnological advances mean the environment will keep changing. Unless we createcultures where people truly focus on the donor and are encouraged to use their initiative,we will fail to inspire loyal, generous support.As part of the Commission on the Donor Experience, we sought out excellent leaders tofind out how they’ve created teams that are donor-focussed and empowered. Modernleaders act less like a chess master and more like a gardener. Using numerous examples, inthis energising session Rob explains The Three Keys to leading in this way.

2F. ENGAGING & RETAINING DONORS Facilitator:Morag Fleming, Head, Alan Clayton ConsultantsSubject Area:Miscellaneous Audience Level: All levelsAt a time when finding new donors is becoming more difficult it is even more importantthat we keep those that we have got. Developing supporter journeys that engage anddelight donors will help to build their support. This session will look at the key elementsof a supporter journey, how to develop stories to bring your donors closer to your causeand how to make your donors feel good about supporting you.

WorkshopsWorkshop 3. Monday 25th March 2019, 4.30pm3A. TIME4CHANGEFacilitator: Cliff Mann, Times 4 ChangeSubject Area: EventsAudience Level: All levels Workshop description A firewalk is the most inspirational journey you will everundertake. The decision to walk across the coals is dramatically life changing. Not becauseyou have decided to firewalk in itself, but because you have consciously decided not to letyour fear inhibit your actions. Once you take the power away from fear, there is reallynothing stopping you. After all if you can walk safely across hot coals what else is possible?This session will teach you how to be in control of your emotions and give you the abilityto feel more of what you wish for on a day to day basis. Would you like to be happier,more confident, assertive, calm? Then this is the workshop for you! Delegates please be aware this is not a presentation on how to run a firewalk. If you sign up for thisworkshop you will be doing the motivational training with Cliff and you will then go outside anddo a firewalk. IS YOUR THANKING GOOD ENOUGH?Facilitator: Gill Jolly, Achieve Consultants Ltd.Subject Area: CommunityAudience Level: Beginners & IntermediateWe spend ages crafting our communications to encourage and ask people to support ourHospices. However, what about our thanking? Often this is just something that is hardlygiven any thought. In this session we’ll be going through the steps to undertake a thankingaudit as well as think about what we say and how we say it. It’s such a vital touch-pointwithin a supporter relationship and can make or break a fulfilling supporter journey.

3C. CORPORATE CHALLENGEFacilitator: Christina Cope, Pendleside HospiceSubject Area: CorporateAudience Level: IntermediatePendleside Hospice runs an extremely successful corporate challenge each year, with 2018seeing it realise almost £130,000 from 43 companies. In this session Christina will shareher experience of launching and growing the challenge to its current heights and plans fornext year.

3D. MAJOR DONOR FUNDRAISINGFacilitator:Michael Bartlett, Money Tree FundraisingSubject Area: Miscellaneous.Audience Level: Intermediate & Management.Hospices are increasingly looking to major donors as a route to growing income, but wheredo you start? This session will set you off on the right track, whatever your size of hospice.Mike will highlight practical tips that you can take back to work and implementimmediately to improve the potential of your major donor portfolio, including findingnew donors, making more of your fundraising events and getting senior level buy in. Mikewill take you through the Who, What and How of major donor fundraising, includinginsights from a recent survey of 50 hospice major donors.

3E. APPRENTICESHIPSFacilitator: Sandy Lindsay MBE, Tangerine PR AgencySubject Area: LeadershipAudience Level: ManagementEver thought your digital marketing could do with a spicing up (or any kind of spice atall?) – well our guest speaker, Sandy Lindsay MBE, is well worth a listen. Sandy foundedand chairs The Juice Academy, a not for profit, multi award-winning digital marketingapprenticeship programme which has placed more than 300 bright young things intoorganisations all over the North West of England, including national players such as SocialChain, Pets at Home, Manchester Airport and Pretty Little Thing, as well as a variety ofcharities. Sandy will talk us through how the apprenticeship world works, what we’d needto do to find and recruit our very own apprentice and answer any questions we have.

3F. SMARTER WORKINGFacilitator: Caryn Skinner, Sharpstone Skinner Ltd.Subject Area: MiscellaneousAudience Level: All levelsAre you a free spirit that likes to go with flow or do you love nothing more than gettingyour head down with no interruptions and getting one job done well? There are a milliontime management techniques, there are even beautifully bound files to put your to do listsin but is that really all there is to being a good time manager? In the session you willrecognise how you work best and what you can do more of and less of from being a betterinfluencer to not frustrating your colleagues.

ZERO TO HEROFacilitator: Caroline Siddall, Hospice Of The Good ShepherdSubject Area: GeneralAudience Level: All levelsHow a local hospice turned its individual sponsored and challenge supporters into Hero’s.A practical view of how a hospice has taken their individual sponsored and challengesupporters and by having a greater level of engagement has motivated them, encouragedtheir fundraising activities and increase income. By loving your donors they will do even more for you – find out how?

4B. ENGAGING DIFFERENT COMMUNITIESFacilitator: Sharon Crymble & Suleman Khonat, East Lancs HospiceSubject Area: CommunityAudience Level: All levelsEngagement with people from Black Asian Minority Ethnic(BAME) communities toincrease the reach of the hospice in an area of increasing diversity.Workshop descriptionThe East Lancashire Hospice footprint area has a large BAME community who:

• Did not know what the hospice did• Did not use the hospice services• Did not raise funds

After years spent knocking on doors, the involvement of a member of our communitydramatically changed all this and we now have:

• Initiations to events, assemblies, mosques to talk about the hospice• An increase in the number of BAME people using our services• Ongoing fundraising, including £58,000 raised in one year, Mosque collectionsduring Ramadan and links to local business’

4C. ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM...Facilitator: Linzi Warburton, Trinity Hospice & Brian’s House HospiceSubject Area: Community IMOAudience Level: All levelsFind out about Trinity Hospice’s Elephant in the Room movement, which is helping toopen up conversations around death and dying, whilst increasing hospice income throughkeepsake memory elephants, made using the clothing of those no longer with us. Gainuseful advice and supporting materials on how your hospice can launch your ownvolunteer lead Elephants.

4D. DIGITAL MARKETINGFacilitator: Sarah Knight, Mash CommunicationsSubject Area: Social MediaAudience Level: All levelsYour online channels are your digital window to the world. t's how people consumeinformation about you. How they see you behave, think and act. Today it’s all about meme me. There has been a 60% increase in mobile searches “______for me’ in the past twoyears and an 80% growth in mobile searches for “___should I____ in the past two years?”Are you answering their questions? Does your digital window to the world look atanswering the questions the target audience is asking. In this session we look at howeveryone is making it personal and how you fit into their customer journey.

4E.
