Information about pleurotous mushrooms

• They are commonly cultivated edible mushrooms.• They grow in clusters and groups, in dead wood broadleaf

and fir trees. • They are growing in autumn and summer. They have rich

flesh and delicate flavor and are very famous in Greek cuisine as they are a rich source of vitamins.

Nutritional value of mushrooms• Pleurotus mushrooms are high in protein and low in

saturated fat, sodium and have no cholesterol. • Due to the presence of all the essential amino acids, are

high quality, far superior to plant protein, while the protein they contain approaches the quality of animal protein.

• They are also a rich source of dietary fiber and vitamins such as vitamin C, B complex vitamins (especially folic acid and thiamine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, B6), iron, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, copper and selenium.

• They are known for a number of therapeutic activities such as antitumor, antioxidant, anti -inflammatory, antihypertensive, antimicrobial and antiviral activities .
