Plot Elements

Introduction (Exposition): Introduces setting, characters, and conflict.Conflict: The problem that is typically

introduced in the introduction○ Internal conflicts: Problems characters have within themselves.

Characters must make a tough decision that effects them personally. For example: In the novel/movie, The Hunger Games, should Katniss run

away with Gail? She has to make a decision that’s right for her.

○ External conflicts: Problems characters have with other characters. For example: Katniss has to participate in the Hunger Games and face the

other tributes who try to kill her.

Setting-The time and place of the story○ Settings can change throughout a story, but

they are always important to the plot and characters
