Judging foR thE LightS

ContESt Begins on Sat, December 4th

Beginning Saturday, December 4th, the PC Landscape Committee will judge the holiday lights of Plum Creek. With three categories, everyone has the opportunity to get into the spirit of the season.

Our first category is Traditional. Traditional includes the simpler designs of house trimming and lots of greenery. It’s the classic winter wonderland and Christmas of old. You can earn 1st, 2nd, or 3rd! Next, we encounter the Religious category, which embraces all major religious holidays. These holidays include Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and more. We award 1st place only in this category.

In the Novelty category, you can run amuck! This category accepts all of the rest! Once again, you can receive 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

Winners will receive a gift card and a sign in their yard through the holidays. Judging will begin the night of Saturday, December 4th and run through the night of Wednesday, December 8th.

Feel free to nominate your own home or your neighbor! Just email [email protected].

Remember, have your decorations up and your lights shining bright by Saturday, December 4th at 6PM and every night at that time until Wednesday, December 8th!

Santa CLauS iS Coming to PLum CREEk

Sat, December 4th from 11 am to 3:30 pmDon’t fight the lines at the mall for Santa pictures. Come by the Haupt

Community Center on Saturday, December 4th to get your picture taken with Santa. Families are welcome or just kiddos. While you are waiting, do some Christmas shopping from local vendors. The event runs from 11am to 3:30pm.

Digital photos will be taken by the Recreation Committee and printed for you to pick up. You are welcome to snap some photos on your own, too Since this is the season of giving, we ask that everyone bring a donation of canned foods to give to the Hays County Area Food Bank. Check donations made out to the Hays County Area Food Bank will be accepted, as well.

If you would like to decorate our community Christmas tree, please bring one ornament per family to place on the tree. Feel free to have a family picture or your names on the ornament. We will continue to add to the tree each year as we watch our community family grow.

If you would like to have a table at the event that day, the table fee is $10. Checks should be made payable to the Hays County Area Food Bank. Space is limited and first come, first serve.

Seed & Stomp and Scarecrow Contest Results

Thanks to everyone who participated or volunteered at the 5th Annual Seed & Stomp and Scarecrow Contest. We spread about 7 pounds of seed, gave over 150 people hayrides, created 18 scarecrows, made 75

pinecone birdfeeders, and ate and decorated almost 400 cookies. We had so many scarecrows that we added some judging categories! And, the winners are…

4TH ANNuAl Plum Creek BBQ and Chili Cook-Off Results

This year, eight teams competed in the BBQ Cook-Off and 20 teams competed in the chili cook-off. Several folks competed in the other non-meat categories, as well. All in all, it was a yummy event. The overall champion team was Smokin’ Bones with 24 points. Here are the category winners:

We are much more than just a bedroom community. You can work, live, party, and give all without leaving the 78640. Here are a few things you may be interested in attending in the month of November. We have limited space so I just chose a few things and I try to spotlight the free things as well.

NOVemBer 4 – mONTHly AmBAssADOr’s B.A.s.HIf you are a businessperson or just interested in talking with some

of the local and area business owners, what better way to do it but a happy hour? Free snacks, free drinks, drawings for door prizes, and you’re free to bring any marketing materials or business cards you’d like. It’s hosted at a different place each month. November’s will be held at Cowboy Polaris (next to Cowboy Honda).

NOVemBer 6 - kyle mArkeT DAysCome out and celebrate the last Market Days of the year. Vendors

will be selling goods and music will be playing. Visit with your neighbors and chat up some of the local artisans. Whether you’re looking for a horse that is made from spelling the word “horse,” a baby shower cake made from diapers, or kettle corn, you’ll find it here.

NOVemBer 63rd Annual Dia De Los Muertos Festival – For the third year,

Downtown Kyle will be transformed into a block party as the town celebrates the holiday Dia De Los Muertos. For those who aren’t familiar, Dia De Los Muertos is Spanish for “Day of the Dead” and it’s a celebration of the memory of loved ones who have passed away before us. Be prepared to see some beautiful alter displays, and decorated booths while enjoying music by mariachi bands and dance performances. It’s free to attend and there will be plenty of keepsakes (sugar skulls and jewelry) and food (corn dogs, cookies, tacos and the like) being sold in booths. It all kicks off at 2:00pm (just after Market Days) and lasts until 9:30pm.

All mONTH – Turkey’s TACklINg HuNgerThe Hays County Food Bank is collecting canned goods all month

long. Last year, they provided a “Turkey Box” to over 6,500 Hays County neighbors. You’ll likely see the turkey out at the Dia De Los Muertos

Celebration as well as churches, social club meetings, and anywhere he/she is allowed to appear. Foods like stuffing mix, corn, green beans, yams, instant potatoes are always being sought. Happening Down The RoadsAN mArCOs: NOVemBer 6 - HAys COuNTy memOry wAlk

The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease. Just down the road in San Marcos, the annual Hays County Memory Walk is a 3 mile walk (suggested) and registration will begin at 8:00a. From Kyle, the Kyle United Methodist Church will be representing, participating, and raising money. They can always use more walkers. to don their lederhausen and celebrate German culture (and sausage). It’s Oktoberfest Texas Style. Lots of fun, booths selling yummy things, and entertainment for all ages. Waltz on over to http://www.wurstfest.com for directions and to print out a discount coupon before you go...it’ll save you a little “pretzel money.”

Negley NewsA place for information about your

neighborhood school!eVeNTs

Negley PTA is sponsoring a “sock hop” at Negley Elementary School on Friday, November 5th from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Take some time as a family to come and bee bop with the best in your socks!

On November 9th, Negley sponsors Family Math Night titled “Math is an ADDventure,” alongside its regularly scheduled PTA meeting. Please join us from 6 to 7:30pm in the Negley cafeteria.

Veterans Day is November 11th. Take some time to thank a veteran for supporting our country.

Negley welcomes families to join their child on November 18th for a fantastic lunch sponsored by HaysCISD food service. Tickets will be on sale the day of the luncheon. Thank you for following our safety procedures and remembering to bring your identification when you check in. We hope you can join us!

Remember, no classes on November 22nd through November 26th due to the holiday.

OTHer News AND NeeDsNegley Elementary is in need of mentors. Thirty minutes a week

can positively influence a child for a lifetime. If you are interested in being a mentor please contact Michelle Winn at [email protected]. Potential mentors are required to participate in a thirty minute training and complete a background check.

Thanksgiving Holiday is just around the corner. If you would like to help families in need, please bring canned/dry foods to the Negley Elementary foyer. Twenty dollars will buy a family of five a Thanksgiving dinner. Monetary donations can be dropped off with your child’s teacher or to the Negley office.

sTArlIgHT symPHONy NeeDs yOuTHThe Starlight Symphony Orchestra, a community orchestra

in the Central Texas area, is proud to announce two exciting programs available for advanced student musicians through grade twelve. The Youth Orchestra Festival invites students to come together in January and February of 2011 to prepare full orchestra literature for performance with the Starlight Symphony Orchestra in early March. String students will audition for seating. Wind and percussion player’s spots are limited so they will audition for acceptance into the festival and for seating placement. The Young Artist Solo Competition is designed to provide the opportunity for two talented and dedicated young musicians to be featured soloists with the Starlight Symphony Orchestra. Winners will also receive a $500 scholarship. Auditions are scheduled for November 19, 2010, and November 20, 2010. Those interested will be contacted prior to this date for your time slot.
