further reflect upon the Mass readings:

Question for Children: Beyond toys and other things, what

do you hope will happen in your family this Christmas?

Question for Youth: What are the greatest challenges you

face as a young person today in terms of allowing Christ

to be your teacher and following him?

Question for Adults: Name the one thing in your life which

you must “move out of the way” in order to make more

room for Christ – a grudge, a possession, a memory,

hurt, or feeling.

SENT to be the presence of God in Ames, Iowa State University, and the world.

Religious Retirement Fund Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests spent years working in Catholic schools, hospitals, and social service agen-cies, often for little, if any, pay. Their sacrifices now leave their religious communities without adequate savings for retirement and elder care. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious collection helps provide prescription medications, nursing care, and more for thousands of elderly religious. Please give to those who have given a lifetime. Envelopes available in the church.

Card Social Those who play 500 and those who would like to learn—mark your calendars for Friday, January 17th for an STA Card Social starting at 6:30pm.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

5a

Our God is Love. May we recognize our dependence upon

God, preparing “a way” for God each day and in each

relationship and encounter and become as passionate about

living our faith as John the Baptist was in today’s Gospel.

www.staparish.net

The Season of Advent:

We Are Called to Be Stewards

Many use the Advent season to look back on

“Christmases Past” and reassess their priorities in life.

Perhaps we should also strive for a greater

understanding and appreciation for the mission and

ministry in our parish, and look within our hearts to

determine what role stewardship plays in our faith

lives, as well as in our day-to-day living.

What gifts have I been given and blessed with in my

life? How am I using those gifts? Do my actions and

my use of time and talent reflect my faith?

On behalf of parish leadership we want to thank you

for the contributions you continually provide to our

parish, whether in terms of your time, your presence,

your prayers, your support and participation and

through your financial giving.

Christmas Blessings! on each of us and our faith community

READINGS THIS WEEK

· many make special donations to the parish at year end.

· it may be in thanksgiving for the blessings received

during the year OR it may be to take advantage of tax

incentives.

· if for the second reason, because IRS regulations are date

sensitive, it is important for you to make this contribution

on or before December 31 if you plan to use the

donation for the 2013 tax year.

Help with snow & ice is always appreciated

before Masses OR during the week

Snow shovels are available at the entrances and in the hospitality closet.

Clear entrances, sidewalks and steps, north, east and south, to make it

easier and safer for all to get in and out of the building. If icy & slippery,

sprinkle ice melt (found in hospitality closet) at Lincoln Way entrance,

LW sidewalk and in Gathering Space parking area. Do NOT use

chemical melt around the parking structure or its sidewalks—concrete is

not “old” enough yet. If you have questions, check with Bobby LeBlanc

or other staff member, otherwise grab a snow shovel and help clear.
