Feel free to contact us if you have questions or need any resources!

Hello PNW District! My name is Emma Betz and I am serving as your 2014-2015 District Governor.

The Governor oversees the events and happenings within the District and makes sure the

information from International makes it to the clubs. That being said, I would personally like to

invite you to attend our upcoming District Convention in DuPont, Washington this coming

February. It is a fantastic opportunity to connect with Circle K members from all over our

amazing district and really gain some great new ideas to take back to your home club. I highly

encourage everyone to attend whether you have never attended a District function or if you've

attended many, everyone will take something away from the experience. Should you have any

questions or need more convincing, don't hesitate to contact me through either e-mail or

Facebook! Make sure to check out the event page for DCON on Facebook and I sincerely hope

to see you there!

Hey, PNW District! My name is Hakikat Bains and I will be serving as your 2014-2015 District Editor

for the remainder of this CKI year. As Editor, I create district-wide publications for clubs within

PNW. These publications inform our members of international, district, and divisional updates.

One of the most important purposes of The PNW Post is to recognize CKI members and our

clubs throughout the Pacific Northwest. Don’t hesitate to submit any articles or pictures of what

the highlight of your CKI year has been to [email protected]. You or your club may be

featured in the next issue! I also serve as a resource to members on any questions you might

have on district-wide events in the PNW, such as District Convention. You can find more

information on DCON and why your club should attend throughout this publication! If you have

any comments, concerns, or questions, please feel free to contact me!

Hey PNW! I'm Chester and I will be your District Treasurer for the remainder of

the term. An important part of my duty is to make sure all of the membership

dues are in order. Thank you to all of the clubs that have submitted their dues!

If dues have not been submitted, I will be in contact. District dues for PNW are

$7.00 per club member. This month, I will also be working to make sure your

clubs are properly registered for our annual District Convention. This is an

event you definitely don't want to miss! I hope to see you there! Feel free to

contact me if you have any questions about the dues process, DCON, or any

other general questions.

Hey PNW!

I'm Alex Switzer, and I'm serving as the 2014-15 District Secretary. I'm a sophomore studying

Business and Political Science at UW, and absolutely love CKI! Throughout the year, I've worked

with your club secretaries to total all of the service hours, fundraising, and other information from

your clubs, and complied the information for each CKI Club in the PNW. I also maintain the

minutes from the Board Meetings by the District Board! All of the minutes are on the PNW

website, and I encourage you to look there for them, and tons of other information, including

about District Convention! Your officers should all have info about the upcoming convention,

and I encourage you to attend this wonderful weekend in DuPont! If you ever have any

questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

Hi, my name is Yuchen Mou. I am a

senior at the University of

Washington and currently the UW

Circle K International Club President.

My favorite aspect of my job as a

club officer is getting to know

everyone. I meet lots of awesome

people, from members to officers!

Also, I have so much fun

volunteering with them. I decided to

join and become an officer in Circle

K as I started out as our club

webmaster because I was interested

in Computer Science as a freshman.

Then, I just gradually got more and

more involved! If I could give any

advice to a member wanting to run

for the position of Club President, I

would tell them to be sure you have

enough time in your schedule to

fulfill your presidential duties. Lastly, I

would like to thank our club VP,

Susan Glenn, who is amazing! She's

always been there to help me out

on decisions and planning and

calling people and leading events

and basically everything! Thanks for

all the support!

Get to know our

Aktion Club is the only service club for adults with disabilities, with

more than 11,000 members worldwide. Aktion Clubs draw members

from various organizations that support individuals with disabilities,

as well as other community programs. Aktion clubs can also be

established at churches, libraries, YMCAs, lodges or similar facilities.

A Kiwanis club, composed of likeminded, service-oriented people

from the community, serves as the club’s sponsor.

More than 36,000 children are learning leadership through service.

They're taking on the responsibility of running a K-Kids club as they

plan and participate in community service projects. They assist the

elderly with chores or organize community food drives. They serve

their schools, raising funds for sports equipment and extracurricular

activities. These is for all elementary school students!

Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school

and junior high students, with more than 45,000 members

worldwide. Members learn to work together and develop service

leadership skills as they serve their school and community. In

partnership with UNICEF and March of Dimes, the clubs are able to

expand their outreach to babies and children of the world!

Key Club International is the high school organization sponsored by

Kiwanis International. High school student members of Key Club

perform acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up

parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives. They also

learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and

holding elected leadership positions at the club, district and

international levels.

Kiwanis clubs focus on changing the world by serving children,

one child and one community at a time. No two Kiwanis clubs

look exactly the same. Each member’s and community’s

needs are different, and each club should look different. Some

clubs are very traditional, with weekly meetings and a strong

sense of history. Other clubs don’t meet at all, and instead hold

meetings online and only come together for service projects.

Overview of

“My favorite part was probably the ropes course

because there were a lot of fun group activities we

got to do together and we got to meet and get to

know new people in our district. It was a really

memorable experience.”

-Zein Charania Washington State University

“My favorite part was the ropes course because

there I learned that to be a leader one has to listen to

what others have to say and trust that everyone is

willing to put in effort to help your group achieve

what they want.”

-Vanessa Zea Linfield College

“My favorite part of leadership academy was

doing the workshop with my group! I really got to

know people from other circle k clubs on a more

personal level! I also loved that at the end we had

a time of reflection where we wrote letters to our

future selves!”

-Susan Glenn University of Washington

“My favorite part of leadership academy was being

able to immerse myself in the diverse ideas and

opinions of students from two different countries, and

building new and existing connections with

likeminded individuals. I not only learned from these

ideas, but grew from them.”

-Annie Do University of Victoria

This past October, members from all over the

Pacific Northwest Circle K District gathered

at the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp to attend the

first annual PNW Leadership Academy. This

brand new event took the place of Fall

Conference (FCON) and used a curriculum

developed and tailored just for the Pacific

Northwest CKI District. This year, there were

43 members from six schools that travelled to

Oregon and gained valuable leadership skills

that could be used not only within Circle K

but also in other aspects of their lives. The

weekend incorporated parts of all three

tenants of Circle K: Service, Leadership, and

Fellowship. All participants were put into

Communities where they were able to

connect with members from other schools

and get a small group and more hands on

approach on learning the material. The

curriculum included topics on Team Building,

Communication, Conflict Management,

Leadership, Service, Individual Growth, and

Goal Planning. The weekend also had a

service project, various workshops, a ropes

course, and celebratory graduation at the

end. The weekend really provided an

opportunity for members to better their

leadership skills, participate in and gain

service related ideas, and meet many new

people! Thank you to all those who attended

and if you were not able to join us this past

year, make sure to do so in 2105, it is very

much worth the experience!

Hello Circle K Members!

CKIx is just around the corner! For those who don’t know what CKIx is, CKIx is a

two part event which consist of the Large Scale Service Project (LSSP) and

International Convention (ICON). This year is the year you don’t want to miss!

With Kiwanis 100th anniversary, come celebrate with Kiwanis as this is a once in

a life time experience! It’s definitely an event you don’t want to miss!

For those who don’t know what CKIx is, I’ll explain them in the next two

paragraphs!

If I was forced to choose, my favorite out of the two would be the Large Scale

Service Project. The Large Scale Service Project is two days in which Circle K

members just do service! A tradition of what Circle K does is that we always try

to leave the city in better shape than it was and LSSP does that. There are over

20 service projects to do during this event! Not only that, you are divided into

teams which consist of different people from different Circle K districts which

means that you have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world!

This event is really unique because of all the fellowship and service that goes on

and because of this event, we have had more people become involved with the

District/International levels because of it.

The Circle K International Convention is when bylaw changes occur and your

International Board officers are elected! This is important as this affects Circle K

International as a whole! By coming to this event, you have an opportunity to

provide a voice for your club and set the direction you believe is right for the

organization. Club representation is really important and although you may not

believe that one person can make a difference, you are wrong.

So now you’re wondering, why should you come to this event? Below are a list of

reasons as to why you should!

1) It’s truly a once in a lifetime experience as we will be celebrating Kiwanis

100th anniversary with Kiwanis!

2) Make a difference in the community as we will be doing service!

3) Meet people from all around the world that all commonly share a passion for

Circle K like you

4) Registration is $100 cheaper this year compared to last year! ($200 down

from $300)

5) Elect your 2015-2016 International Board!

6) Vote on amendment changes to the Circle K Constitution

7) Gain knowledge that you can bring back to your own clubs.

8) Concert!

9) Listen to fantastic Speakers!

10) Have fun and make memories and friendships that last a lifetime.

For all the up to date information and more information about CKIx, check out

the link below and I highly suggest going to this event! If you have any

questions at all, please let me know! It would be awesome if everyone would

attend this once in a lifetime experience!

The mother cannot hold

her newborn as the baby

is sensitive to light and

touch and dies within

weeks after birth.

The Kiwanis family is

working to raise $110

million by 2015 to

eliminate MNT.

Start fundraising with your

Circle K! It only takes $1.80

to provide 3 doses of the

vaccination needed for

each mother.

Visit

www.theeliminateproject.org

for more information on the

EliMiNaTe Project!

With The Eliminate Project, Circle K

International, along with the rest of the

Kiwanis family and UNICEF have joined

forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal

tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives

of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a

significant number of women each year.

One baby dies every nine minutes from

maternal and neonatal tetanus. The effects

of the disease are excruciating — tiny

newborns suffer repeated, painful

convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light

and touch.

To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more

than 100 million mothers and their future

babies must be immunized. This requires

vaccines, syringes, safe storage,

transportation, thousands of skilled staff and

more. It will take $110 million — and the

dedicated work of UNICEF and every

member of the Kiwanis family.

Kiwanis is determined to eliminate MNT

from the face of the Earth. And in doing so,

the project will reach the poorest, most

neglected mothers and babies with

additional lifesaving health care. The end of

this one disease means the beginning of

better health for so many families.

As Circle K members, we can make a

difference and save a life with less than $2.

Start fundraising with your club today and

educate your other fellow members on

how they can help eliminate

MNT to save the precious bond

between a mother and her child.
