Picture submitted by Hayley Darnielle, R&J Ag Supply
By Anna DragsethOn Saturday, November 16, there will be a Farm Field Day tour in Sidney, Mon-
tana, and Squaw Gap, North Dakota. The purpose of this event is to bring MonDak area producers together and inform them about methods that can help maximize alternative feed for livestock and how to be safe around inoculants and silage pits. The event is free admission and open to the public.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with coffee and donuts at the Wingate by Wynd-ham Hotel, located at 1490 South Central avenue in Sidney. Then after registration,
pit in Sidney. During the tour, attendants will learn how to be safe around silage pits and inoculants.
After the farm tours, attendants will meet up at Wingate by Wyndham Hotel again for lunch and to listen to two featured speakers. Tim Fine, Richland County Exten-
sion Agent, will be speaking about how alternative grazing can improve production and how to prepare to maximize production for next spring. Evan Knutson, Territory Manager at Famo Feeds Inc, will be discussing information about safe alternative feeds, low-quality forages, and why inoculants are an effective tool.
Hayley Darnielle, CEO of R&J Ag Supply, and Rachael Oliver, R&J Ag Supply Sales Manager, organized this event in order to provide an opportunity for farmers and ranchers to learn more about how they can maximize alternative feeds.
Darnielle explained, “With all the moisture we had this fall, there are a lot of farmers that have sprouted wheat and different types of forages and commodities that are not sellable for the human consumption market. So what we are trying todo at the Farm Field Day is to inform ranchers and farmers on how they can feed those through their livestock in a safe way and how to be able to feed alternative things to their livestock other than just hay.”
For more information about the event or directions to the tour, you can giveHayley or Rachael a call at 406-488-1958.
