Knightly News Council No. 3615 Trenton, MI
MARCH 2016
Men, if you have been waiting to be asked to help at one of our events, I am asking for some new volunteers at our April 3rd & 4th Texas hold-um. It is easy and a great way to begin getting involved. Nominations Open March – At the March meeting we will be opening up nominations for the upcoming election of officers for the coming fiscal year, which begins on July 1st. Give it some serious thought as to who you would think would be a good candidate to represent our council. Maybe it is you? Nominations will be held open until the meeting in May when the elections are held. Vivat Jesus, Mike O’Neill GK
Greetings Brother Knights,
Thank you to all who participated in our annual HCCS dinner / fundraiser. Our thanks also to the Knights that helped decorate and then remove the decorations and collect the donated items from our many patrons. We had eighty one items donated from fifty merchants, council donations and personal donations. We had ninety three in attendance and we totaled $2,077. Therefore both Sacred Heart and Eppenbrock will donate $1,038.50 to HCCS. Pam Jackson and Doreen Herk once again co-chaired the successful event. We had our Worthy State Secretary, Ken Unterbrink and his wife, Ellie and Brother Francis Boylan from HCCS in attendance. Next year the dinner will be February 25. Please mark your calendar and spread the word because this really is a fine event and we need to fill the hall. Fat Tuesday we returned to the hall for our “Spaghetti with Jake” fundraising dinner for the Trenton S.N.A.P. program. Our Knights became bus boys for the evening and a nice meal was had for $8.00. With the 50/50 raffle and some cash donations we will be able to give S.N.A.P. about $750.00. March 15 we will be having a Desert Meal benefitting the seminarians at our hall. The simple meal will be $10.00 but we are asking for donations.

The CounCil Hall As you may have read in one of the recent Columbia magazines the Knights of Columbus is encouraging councils that have building corporations, as Eppenbrock, to consider selling their properties. For several years now the Order has stressed the idea of having a K of C presence in all parishes, and having a hall to support takes time and resources away from our main principle, that of Charity. You will be receiving a letter and may already have received this letter prior to receiving this notice in the newsletter. At the meeting of Feb. 8, 2016 a motion was made to list the council hall so as to establish value. Our by-laws state we need the membership to vote on this at a meeting. We will take a vote at the Mar. 14, 2016 meeting on this matter. We need 75% of those attending to proceed and a 50% plus 1 at a meeting to approve the sale. The sale of the hall does not mean the council’s existence will cease. We will seek another location at one of the parishes. Please attend the March 14th meeting to discuss and vote on this matter. You must be in good standing to vote – dues paid up. RJL

APPROVED MOTIONS @ LAST MEETING $100 for Cub Scout Pack 828 for the Pine Derby Contest $100 to the Rosary Makers at Our Lady of the Woods for beads and supplies. $500 for each of the candidates representing the council at the State Convention.
Ramblings of a PGK Membership – “One Member per Council per Month” Have you asked someone to join us in our service to others. The K of C is the globe’s largest Catholic Fraternal Family Service Organiz ation. The council goal is (18) new members for this fiscal year and with over 200 members, we should have no trouble meeting that target. Ask that man in church you see every Sunday to join us, if he’s not a member already. We defend our church, protect the unborn, etc. 40 Cans for Lent - The K of C promotes this program as part of its Food for Families that was initiated a few years ago. You can do this with your family and turn the items collected over to one of the local food banks. Let the Grand Knight know how many pounds of food you donated, as the Order ans Michigan State Council track the memberships charitable works. Membership Dues – As of January 31st, if your dues are not paid you are delinquent. The Knights of Columbus is an organization we as Catholics should be proud to belong to. The Order gives us so many opportunities to do as Our Lord and Savior has asked us to serve one another. You can contact Steve at Tel. 675-1749, if you lost your statement and have not submitted your dues. State Council Raffle Tickets – It’s not too late to continue selling Michigan State Council Raffle tickets. The drawing is not until April. Remember, the council will receive $1 back from the State Council to fund our favorite charities. So please make some effort to sell a few and at least (2) tickets. If the council could average two tickets per member that would net $500 for our favorite charities. Rich Lambrix FDD, PGK, PFN Join the 4th Degree the patriotic degree. Family Project Start praying the Rosary nightly with the family stating what the intentions of the rosary are for - a safe and free America, or for the end of abortion or some other intention of yours. You might also think about praying the “Divine Mercy Chaplet.” The Divine Mercy Hour is 3 o’clock, but anytime is good time to pray this chaplet. Go to the EWTN web site for the how to, if you do not know the rubrics of this prayer. www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/mercy/dmmap.htm

Only Having Insurance “Through Work” Doesn’t Work
Do you know anyone whose life or career has drastically changed during these years of economic downturn? It’s very likely that someone in your immediate or extended family or group of friends is facing financial uncertainty. Maybe there’s a possibility that you (or your spouse) could lose your job or change employers.
Too many people have often relied on group term life insurance as their only safety net. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at low or no cost. The existence of this coverage might convince someone that personally-owned life insurance is not necessary.
But only having “through work” insurance can leave you and your family vulnerable. Most group life insurance policies are limited in amount, which may be tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped, and this cap may be dangerously low when compared to your family’s actual needs. In fact, a detailed needs analysis that evaluates your specific situation, will likely show that any employer-provided coverage falls short.
In addition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced, sometimes dramatically, when you retire. You could one day find yourself without coverage, and if your health has changed (which it will as you age), you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection. At the very least, it will definitely be more expensive.
While group life insurance can help, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. I’ll be happy to meet with you and provide a no-cost needs analysis, so you’ll know exactly where you stand.

Celebrate Faith Family Fraternity MISSION STATEMENT
of Council No. 3615, Trenton Michigan Adopted April 10, 2006
The Msgr. John Eppenbrock Council of the Knights of Columbus is a local fraternal service organization of Catholic men dedicated:
to nurture and protect our families and family life, to live and share our Catholic faith, to aid the needy in our council and in our community with deeds of Christian
service and charity, and to provide educational, religious, civic, social and athletic programs,
thereby promoting a spirit of unity, friendship and brotherhood. Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother and our founder Fr. Michael McGivney, we ask the Holy Spirit to empower, strengthen, and guide us in this mission, and to lead us to life everlasting.
Mission Statement
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” - Matt. 7:21
