SJBS Spring Rec & Work Bond Refunds

Dear SJBS Parents,

At the May 28th, 2020 SJBS general meeting, the Board of Directors’ (BoD) voted to approve refunds from the spring recreational seasons (Spring Rec). The following day, Governor Murphy announced that non-contact youth sports can begin on June 22nd. The Executive Board immediately set out to plan revised recreational seasons for the summer (Summer Rec). Announcing the recently approved Refund Program, without Summer Rec plans, would have been incomplete and confusing.

After last night’s extraordinary general meeting to discuss and vote on Summer Rec, a plan for softball was approved. As a result, we will immediately begin processing refunds for softball. With further details still needed for another vote regarding baseball (scheduled for June 16th), the refund process for that sport must wait until a final decision is made for Summer Rec.

Please note that SJBS on-field activities are subject to government health and safety regulations, guidelines and compliance.

Attached is the presentation from May 28th describing how the Refund Program was derived and figures were calculated.

To summarize here:

Average Registration Refund = $93 (53% of average Net Fee Paid per registrant: $170) Work Bond Refund = $75 (100% of Work Bond fee per registrant: $75) Total Average Refund = $168 (69% of Net Fee Paid + Work Bond fee: $245)

Average figures are used as the simplest way to communicate the Refund Program to all parents, while still accounting for the difference in such variables as sport, grade, discounts, etc. Your actual refund will be based on your actual Net Fee Paid and actual Work Bond posted. Therefore, your total refund may differ from the average shown above.

In addition to the Refund or Donate options shown in the presentation, there will be a third option – Rollover: apply refund to registration fees for Summer Rec.

Shortly you will receive a separate email opening registration for Summer Rec. That will be combined with the Refund Program, all of which will be handled by our new league management and web site platform, TeamSnap, a platform and app that many of you know and have come to rely on for youth sports. SJBS has developed a process by which you can:

• Verify you and your child(ren)’s information and add additional information • Make your Refund/Donation/Rollover decision and receive a Section 501(c)(3) letter if you select the Donation option • Create a TeamSnap account (or use an existing one); no fee for your account, but with all the features of a paid subscription

Going forward, we will all have to continue to be supportive, creative and flexible in ways we never imagined. But our commitment to all of Summit’s youth to play softball and baseball is stronger than ever.

Please direct any questions or comments about refunds to the specially created email address: [email protected].

I personally thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this process. It has been arduous and not what any of us wanted to face, but I can finally hear the whisper of those sweet words – “Play Ball!”

Wishing you and yours health and peace,

Gennaro R. D’Agostino
