Poaching Poaching Poaching is one of the main threats to survival of Amur tiger and other rare and endangered species of Primorye. It is caused by huge demand and market for tiger and other wildlife parts mainly in neighboring China, and widespread corruption in Russian law enforcement agencies (e.g., among police officers, border guards, custom officers, etc) and difficult economic situation in Russia. With state authorities closing their eyes to wildlife crimes, illegally harvested wood is easily legalized and transported to China, and bear paws, gall bladders, musk and other valuable biological stimulants of animal origin are sold through “black holes” in the Russian-Chinese border.
