“In a new two-part documentary, Tom Hardy exposes the ways in which rhinos and elephants are being slaughtered in Africa, as growing Asian markets are linked to organised crime.”

Documentary type: Observational/ParticipatoryAired: ITVTime: 9pmTarget audience: Based on the time the programme was aired and the subject matter, the target audience would be that of 20+ as the images shown too can be considered violent.

ITV: ITV don’t air many documentaries as they are more famous for their dramas, however they do the occasional 1 / 2 part documentaries that highlight important issues, in this case the possible extinction of Rhinos.

Using a celebrity such as Tom Hardy allows the show to gain a larger audience as people will tune in to see the celebrity as well as the cause that is close to their heart. This is a clever means used in 1 or two part documentaries that deal with a particular cause so that more awareness can be bought to the subject.

MUSIC: The background music throughout is used to emphasize points made in documentary, such as putting emphasise on the cruelty in the way the poachers kill Rhinos by having more tense and morbid music.

CAMERA ANGLES: The camera angles through the documentary vary as it is a hybrid documentary, containing observational footage, interviews, hands-on work and also using archive footage. This means that there is a broad spectrum of shots used, however they are individually used effectively to convey the message.

EDITING: The piece has been edited together in order to create a more moving documentary, one that is meant to shock the viewers into believing in the cause. This is done by combing the different types of footage and using observational footage as a bridge between time.
