Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft

Founded by Feather Phillips as Pocosin Arts Folk School in 1994, Pocosin’s original

mission was to connect culture to the environment through the arts. Pocosin Arts’

mission has since evolved to include lifelong learning through the arts. The name,

“Pocosin” (pe-ko-sen) comes from an Eastern Algonquian word meaning “Swamp on a

hill,” a prominent feature of the beautiful environment that surrounds our community.

In addition to our workshop programs, Pocosin Arts offers year-round youth programs

and collaborations with local public schools, adult community classes in studio arts and

artist residencies. This year marks Pocosin Arts’ 25th Anniversary, and we are excited

to show you all we have to offer in 2019.

Workshops

Craft education is at the heart of Pocosin Arts’ programs. Workshops range from two

to seven days in ceramics, metals, mixed media, painting, photography, textiles, wood,

digital design/fabrication, and other special topics

Who are our students?

Pocosin Arts welcomes anyone 18 years and beyond that enjoys making and the cre-

ative experience; from beginners to advanced.

What makes Pocosin Arts an exceptional craft destination?

Pocosin offers a personal, friendly experience where participants enjoy the close prox-

imity of well-equipped studios, comfortable lodging, the charm of Main Street and

inspiration along the Scuppernong River boardwalk.

General Information | Resident Artist Program

DetailsPocosin’s Resident Artists are full time artists who spend one to two years living, working and teaching at Pocosin Arts. Pocosin Arts provides residents with housing, studio space and a stipend. Resident Artists have full access to Pocosin Art’s studios, and are selected through a competitive application process.

General Information | Scholarships

Pocosin Arts’ mission to provide opportunities for discovery, creativity, and lifelong learning through the arts is served through our craft-based workshops. Scholarships help make op-portunities available to a diverse audience and are made possible through the generosity of instructors and students who donate their work to our annual fund-raiser, individuals, and private foundations. We offer scholarships year round, and they are intended to assist where financial limitations would otherwise prevent attendance. Scholarships can be partial or com-plete waivers of registration fees, tuition and housing. Applications are reviewed on an ongo-ing basis, however, applications must be received a minimum of one month before the first day of the chosen workshop. Applicants will be notified approximately one week after applica-tion submission.
