• A high latitude region of a planet or moon that is covered in ice
Where is it Located?
• Must be centered in a polar region• Located around the North Pole, Greenland,
and Antarctica• Covers 70% of the Arctic Ocean
What is its Temperature?
• The average monthly temperature is the coldest area in the world
• -17ᵒ C (1.4ᵒ F)• For 6 months the sun never appears above the
horizon and temperatures plummet to the coldest experienced ever
What is the Snowfall/Rainfall?
• Ice cap climate is described as a “polar desert”• Combined yearly 0.4 precipitation yearly• 0.03 combined precipitation monthly
What is the Vegetation?
• Only moss and lichen exist
• Due to the harsh weather conditions, traditional plants cannot grow
