POLIESTIRENO CRISTAL
Definición: El producto de la polimerización del estireno puro se denomina poliestireno cristal o poliestireno de uso general (GPPS, siglas en inglés). Es un sólido transparente, duro y frágil. Es vítreo por debajo de 100 °C. Por encima de esta temperatura es fácilmente procesable y puede dársele múltiples formas.

El poliestireno cristal (GPPS) es de estructura amorfa. se considera uno de los plásticos de mayor transparencia y brillo en la superficie. presenta alta rigidez y fragilidad. Es uno de los plásticos de mas fácil procesamiento. No requiere secado y presenta mínimas contracciones de moldeo. es completamente atáctico; es decir: los grupos fenilo se distribuyen a uno u otro
lado de la cadena central, sin ningún orden particular.
Aplicaciones:
Se fabrican piezas de diseños complicados por el método de inyección y por extrusión.
Se producen perfiles y laminas para termoformado o cancelería. " Se utiliza en la fabricación de estuches, casettes, papelería, envases desechables.
