Industrial Safety Awareness10SRENG8501D The basics of industrial safety are covered, along with a contemporary overview of the science and manage-ment occupational health and safety programs, policies and procedures in industrial and business environments.Tuesdays and ThursdaysOct 26 - Nov 187 to 9 p.m.Instructor: Phil McLean and Dan GoodrowPrice: $649

Plastics Project10SRENG8501E This course places a particular emphasis on the identification of processing problems and defining variables for troubleshooting. Case studies involving thermoplastics will be presented and students will then choose a topic, research and discuss their chosen topic with their classmates and conclude by presenting their findings.Tuesdays and ThursdaysNov 23 - Dec 21(No class November 25)7 to 9 p.m.Instructor: Jake BennetPrice: Included as part of the overall certificate program price.

About the Program: Based upon collaboration with representatives from numerous polymer industries, The University of Akron Medina County University Center is pleased to offer this unique Polymer Certification Program.

This innovative program will help employees gain the knowledge and skills that are necessary to enable them to make their companies more competitive and profitable.

Who can benefit from the training: Supervisors, machine operators, managers, maintenance personnel, or those new to working in the polymer industry.

Curriculum Structure

The complete certification program is comprised of 70 hours of instruction with five courses as detailed below.

The certification program includes all five modules for one price. Individual modules can be taken for certificate of completion per module.

Introduction to Polymers10SRENG8501AAn overview is provided of basic chemical, physical and thermal properties and applications of polymers, including material identification and polymer nomenclature. Analytical testing for mechanical, rheological and physical properties will be covered as well. Tuesdays and ThursdaysAug 3 - Aug 267 to 9 p.m.Instructor: Thomas DudekPrice: $649

Engineering Technology Basics10SRENG8501BThis module includes a technical math study and review, introduction to preventa-tive maintenance, computer controls, and software, factory communications, industrial electricity, Programmable Logic Controllers, instrumentation and hydraulic systems. Tuesdays and ThursdaysAug 31 - Sept 237 to 9 p.m.Instructor: Jake BennetPrice: $649

Plastics Technology10SRENG8501C The study of plastic materials and processes is covered from a product manufacturing perspective. This course focuses on classifications of thermoplastics, compounding, blending and associated additives. An in-depth study of major pro-cessing and fabricating technologies as well as secondary operations also will be presented.Tuesdays and ThursdaysSept 28 - Oct 217 to 9 p.m.Instructor: Thomas DudekPrice: $649

Flexible Delivery Method

Because in today’s hectic environment employees are stretched thin trying to balance both work and family obligations, there is often little time left for professional development.

Likewise, the fast pace of the production environment, combined with the expense of sending employees away to lengthy workshops, employers are often limited in the amount of training that they can provide their employees.

This innovative Polymer Certification is designed to incorporate a unique blend of Web-based instruction, periodic classroom session and laboratory experiences to give employees access to the majority of the content 24/7.

The complete certification program includes:• Independent Web-based Instruction: The

participant can access the courses via the Internet at a time that is convenient to his or her schedule.

• Live Web-based Instruction: By accessing scheduled live chat sessions via the Internet, the participant is able to interact with both the instructor and other class participants.

• Classroom/Laboratory Sessions: The participant will attend periodic in-person sessions at The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, and the Medina County University Center in Medina, Ohio. These sessions will give the learner face-to-face interaction with the instructor as well as provide key hands-on experiences in a polymer lab.
