Polytetra GmbH is one of the few manufac-turers of heat-shrinkable tubing made fromPTFE, FEP and PFA fluoroplastics in theworld. Our main expertise lies in the pro-duction of customer-specific special sizes,which are dimensioned precisely accordingto the parts to be covered and their appli-cation. This also includes the shrinking-onof parts provided by the customer.

Our products are used all over the world,particularly in the areas of measurementand control technology, medicine, chemi-cal industry, automobile and food industry,in the electro-plating as well as aerospaceindustry.

POLYTETRAFLON® heat-shrinkable tubingis manufactured from selected fluoropla-stics. The tubing, which is expanded by aspecial heat treatment, shrinks backalmost to the original diameter when sub-jected to heat treatment once again.

The most common shrinkage rates are 2:1or 4:1 for PTFE and 1.3:1 for FEP andPFA. Please contact us if you need specialshrinkage rates.

Fluoroplastics and particularly PTFE requi-re a special know-how when used forcovering of parts. We will offer you appro-priate consultation based on the specificapplication.

3POLYTETRAFLON® HEAT-SHRINKABLE TUBING

The POLYTETRAFLON® Dual heat-shrink-able tubing is one of our specialities. Heretwo tubings are inserted in one another.The outer tubing is always made fromPTFE, while the inner tubing can be madefrom FEP or PFA. Our Dual heat-shrinkabletubing is recommended for a moisture-proof connection or closure.

The processing temperature must be adap-ted to the selected fluoroplastic. The proces-sing temperature for PTFE is approx. 330°C.

On reaching the gel temperature, the heat-shrinkable tubing looks clear and transpa-rent. The shrinking temperature of FEPheat-shrinkable tubing should range fromapprox. 170 - 190°C. If you are processingPFA the ideal temperature is approx. 190 -

220°C. Industrial furnaces or hot air blo-wers can be used as sources of heat. Pleasenote that there is a possibility of longitudinalshrinkage or expansion of +/- 10% duringthe manufacturing process.

On request, we manufacture tubing accor-ding to varied specifications, such as FDAor USP class VI; we will be glad to manu-facture as per your requirements.

POLYTETRAFLON® Dual heat-shrinkabletubing is specially used in applications,in which the ends have to be closed in amedia-tight manner or water-proof jointsare necessary.

Their functionality consists of one innerand one outer tubing. The outer heatshrinkable tubing is made from PTFE andis more temperature-resistant than theinternal FEP or PFA tubing. When shrink-fitted, the internal tubing liquefies and allthe hollows are filled up. The outer tubingshrinks and presses correspondingly.

The standard length of POLYTETRAFLON®

Dual heat-shrinkable tubing is 1.22 m. Weproduce pre-shrunk standard lengthsagainst an additional charge; else wemanufacture the tubing in standardlengths that are not pre-shrunk. In the lat-ter case, the inner and outer lengths areloose and movable. Deviating lengths willbe available on special request. If youneed special lengths less than 50 cm, werecommend that the tubing should be pre-shrunk.

We also provide PTFE or PFA stoppers forsealing bigger parts. On request, wemanufacture as per general specifications,e.g. FDA or USP class VI, and also as percustomer specifications.

One of our core competences lies in encasing delicate technical parts withheatshrinkable tubing. We know how tocover thermal sensors, springs, stirringshafts, cable antennae, heaters, probes and immersion pipes, right up to entiresystem components. We can tightly heat-seal the covered parts on one side or both the sides, depending upon theapplication. We look forward to new challenges!

Rollcover FEP or PFA


POLYTETRAFLON® Rollcovers aremanufactured in a special manufactu-ring process with diameters rangingfrom approx. 25 mm to 450 mm. Thereare two types of designs, one with inter-nal etching and one without etching.Rollcovers with internal etching can be glued on the roller. Rollcovers aremainly used in the textile industry, paperindustry, packaging and food industry.

Our Rollcovers are used wherever hot,sticky or staining goods have to bemoved. As against conventional PTFEcoatings, POLYTETRAFLON® Rollcoversmade from FEP or PFA do not have amicro-porous surface. Because of thechemical stability of fluoroplastics, theycan be easily cleaned even with aggres-sive chemicals. Rollcovers with the follo-wing wall thickness can be manufactured:
