OWNERS MANUAL FOR MINI-BRUTE SERIES

A NOTE TO YOU THE OWNEB

Congratulations on your selection of a POLYTONE amplifier. The equipment is designed

*iif, vo, in mind. Like you, we are musicians and our equipment is for making music,

not marketing statistics. Of course we appreciate and enjoy the fact that, along with

our quality oi workmanship and engineering, we are realizing our share of the market.

At poLyToNE, the engineers are professional musicians so they know what an amp is

supposed to do and what is needed to keep it operating at the high levels demanded of

today,s equipment. Each amplifier meets the highest possible standards for quality and

perfJrmanc.. Before we ship any of our products, they must pass a series of intensive

and rigid quality control tests - some of the toughest in the industry. We're happy to

say that your amplifier was made by skilled and dedicated craftsrnen who take pride in

tneir wori. This is your assurance that your POLYTONE equipment will be ready when

you "r". POLYTONE delivers the sound you want. After all, we're musicians like you.

!NJROpLrcnoN_ffrese are Vour instructions for operating and performing with POLYTONE equipment; keep

them with you and most importantly, go through them now. These instructions take you

through the various steps oi setting up and showing you how to use the various controls-

att"r-"tt, you,ve got to feel good about the equipment you are working with in order to

play your best which is exactly the purpose of this manual: to introduce you topoLyToNE, your amp and its features. lf you have any questions, problems or just want

to say hello, feel free to write at any time. Thanks for being with us.

3. Since these amPs are solid state, we do not have a heat factor, your arnp

operates extremelY cool.4. During intermission, b" sure that the volume control is turned off either at the

ampliiier or your instrument to avoid the risk of surprise feedback squeal.

5. pOLyTONE sieakers are capable of handling extreme power. They are specially

designed, utilizing a high-temperature expoxy.. However, when using the

ampl-ifier for long periods of time at any overdriven, distorted level, the power

into the speakers iumps to 160-170 watts. use good sense.

6. Minimum exterior ipeaker impedance is 4 ohms. lf improper impedance is used

the amptifier will operate extremely hot, which could cause damage. Much better

results can be achieved by using our SIDEKICK cabinet.for extra power.

7. Oo no sei beverages on top of the amplifier. Sugared drinks as well as others

can cause severe damage if spilled into the amplifier'g. tt is necessary that the propei value fuse be used. lf improper value is used, the

guarantee wili be voided. lf an amp blows fuses, the unit sfrould be taken to a

PILOT LIGHT: Indicates when the electric supply is being fed to the amp.POWER SWITCH: A three position srritch - ON - OFF - ON. The reason for

two ON positions is to give you the option to reverse polarity to elaminate

6OHz hum and to avoid electrical strock when touching your instrurnent.BASS POTENTIOMETER: flat setting at 12 o'clock. Tum dial clockwise to

add up to 2odb of bass; counterclockwise to roll off up to 2odb of bass'MIDR^NGE potentiometer: flat setting at 12 o'clock. Turn dial clockwise to

boost or left to cut.TREBIE POTENnOMETER: flat setting ar 12 c'clock. Turn dial clockwise

to add uP to 2Qdb of Treble; counterclockwise to cut up to 2odb of Treble

CHANNEL 1 VOLUME POTENTIOMETER: AIIOWS CONTTOI Of VOIUMC.TONAL COLOR SWITCH - BOOSr OR A)T H,GHS: center Position is normal-

By flipping up to BOOST, you've got an extra lodb of highs; or flip to cuT

liowni and "ut back lodb. This srritch works independently of the Bass,

Midrange and Treble controls-INPUTS: Hi Gain is used for most instruments; Lo Gain for instruments with

exceptionatly hot outputs such as organs' synthesizers and other keyboards'

REVERB POTENTIOMETER: controls amount of reverb - HAMMOND 3 spring -

which can also be remotely controlled.by a dual foots:witch (optional). This

feature is not included in the SONIC BASS.MASTER VOLLlrE PoTENT|OMETER: determines the amount of output signal-

For quiet operation, set the MASTER VOLUME al 12 o'clock. Tum up channel

volume. For full power of output signal, run MASTER VOLI'jME wide open

and turn channel volumes down-

FOR Models: MegaBrute. MegaBrain. Mini-Brutes ll and.lV - CH ll SOXIClfAD C|flCUIT is controlled Uy - potentiometers - GAIN and CONTOUR - and a

3-way switch - PROGRAM. For SONIC BASS skip to #14

11. GAIN potentiometer with srwitch: Switch on activates CH ll and affectsvolume. CH MLUME is deactivated.

12A. CONTOUR: adding coNToN.rR will boost and cut various frequencies asyou rotate the dial.

12F.. moanlu - WARM, EDGE and DRIVE. These are specially voiced circuitsto obtain various sounds. The SONIC CIRCUIT is a separate entaty and has

nothang to do with CH I VOLUME. (CH I tone controls are still active).Experiment for endless variety of timbres.

13. REMOTE SttrtTcHtNG JACK for CH I - CH ll & Reverb: to remotely controlchannel switching and reverb with our optional dual foots-witch. To switchfrom CH I to CH ll, the GAIN snitch/potentiometer must be clicked ON'

CH ll SONIC BASS ClRCt tT - three pots control the Sonic Bass circuit and workin conjunction with each other: GAIN - CONTOT R - BASS DRIVE16. GAIN Potentiorneter: to activate this circuit, s:witch on GAIN pot (this auto-

matically deactivates CH l). This control by itself only affects volume.17. CONTOUR: when adding CONTO( R, you will boost different upper frequen-

cies as you rotate the dial.18. BASS DRIVE: tuming up the BASS DRI\rE adds low-end frequencies to the

sound you will hear as you tum up this control. Remember, these threecontrols work as partners, not individually. Once you have the setting youlike, .you can tum up the GAIN to control volume. This SONIC CIRC[JIT isa separate entity and has nothing to do with CH l. You will hear that thisSONIC BASS CIRCUIT is even warrner than the regular CH I POLYTONEsound if that is possible!. Don't forget: the MASTER VOLthrE must beturned up for the preamp to be active.

19. ON - OFF Switch for HORN

IOWER BEAR PANE- - All Models1. EXTENSION SPEAKER JACK: output iack for use with our POLYTONE monitor

cabinets perfectly matched for our amplifiers.2. HEADPHONE JACK: cuts out main speaker.3. AC CORD BRACKETS: for wrap-around storage of power cord.1- POWER CORD: for your safety, we usie a three-wire line with a ground. lt

is not a good idea to rernoye the ground pin under any circumstances. lfit is necessary to operate the amp with the old 2 prong plugs, a suitableadapter sfrould be used. Operating amp with the proper groundingreceptacle reduces hazard of sftock.

5. RJSE: located in the cap of the fuseholder, this sftould be replaced withone of proper value strould it fail. In order to keep the guarantee in effect, you must replace this fuse with the correct rating, otherwise the warrantywill be voided. Should your amplifier repeatedly blow fuses, take it toyour nearest qualified service center for repair. FLrSE RATING: 2A (25oV)sLow BLow.
