Medical assessment and treatment

Many People experience insomnia at some point,

but some people do suffer from chronic insomnia,

which may be the primary problem, or it may be

secondary to other causes, such as environmental

factors, physical or psychosocial factors.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-CBT

CBT is an evidence-based non-drug

treatment to insomnia. It improves sleep

by cognitive reframing and behavioral

changes.

Physiotherapy

Some people with sleep problem may associate

with chronic muscle ache. Correct posture and

regular exercise are helpful.

Multidisciplinary Treatment

Combating insomnia may involve the

collaboration of a variety of health care

providers. You don't have to put up with

sleepless nights, please feel free to make a

medical appointment with UHS for assessment if

needed.

水果有益,是均衡飲食中不可缺少的重要元

素。哪些水果寒涼? 哪些水果燥熱? 咳嗽是否

要全面禁“果”? 寒底人士吃甚麼水果? 熱

底人士吃甚麼水果? 春夏秋冬該如何選擇應時

水果? 咳要禁“果”?

水楊酸過敏?

水楊酸會誘發哮喘及咳嗽,咳嗽時要避免

吃含水楊酸高的水果例如橙、菠蘿、士多

啤梨、蜜瓜。戒食高水楊酸含量的蔬果,

或能減少哮喘及咳嗽徵狀。

Well Women Campaign

Well Women Campaign:

Common Breast Problems

The Health Talk was held in November

2015. We invited Dr. Cheung Hay Man to

share this topic in order to raise the self-

awareness of the common breast

problems.

Self-awareness: First step for women health

Some women overlook their health or delay breast examination due to busy lifestyles,

heavy workloads or a misunderstanding of breast problem. Consequently, many breast

problems are delayed to diagnose. Dr. Cheung reminded regular checks on breasts for any

warning signs and symptoms are so important for women. Participants gained the

knowledge by this comprehensive health talk.

Prevention of cervical cancer: Pap

smear

A Pap smear (also known as the Pap test) is a

screening test for cervical cancer. The test

involves collection of a sample of cells from a

woman's cervix during a routine pelvic exam.

Women's Health Clinic in UHS provides timely

cervical cancer screening to detect pre-cancerous

changes and cervical cancer.

was successfully held in January, 2016. This

year we organized a blood screening program

and two health talks encompassing both

western and traditional Chinese medicine to

promote cardiovascular health and nutrition.

Blood screening program

Preventing cardiovascular disease is to

manage your risk factors, such as high

cholesterol or high blood glucose. But

how do you know which risk factors you

have? Blood screening tests including

Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides and

Fasting Glucose will help you to

understand your risks.

Student Mental Health Week

Mental Health Week 2016 consisted of a series of open talk, workshop and exhibition

booths under the theme , co-organized by the

Office of Counselling and Wellness (Centre STARS) and UHS.

On 1 March 2016, a workshop on “Relax by scented tea and exercise” was conducted

by our CMP Zheng Bin and CMP Chan Miu Ha. Participants had a relaxing moment in

enjoying the scented tea and practising Baduanjin exercise.

Various game and exhibition booths were set up in the FJ podium from 1 to 3 March

2016 to promote the theme of “Truth of Happiness”. A body check station was set up

to promote healthy lifestyle, which is crucial in maintaining a happy mind.

八段錦起源於魏晉、形成於宋朝、定形於明代,由八個不同的動作組成,動作簡單易練。古人以“錦”為

名一是八段錦不俗的養生保健功效;二是其動作柔和連綿、滑利流暢、鬆緊結合、動靜相兼,鍛鍊起來如

錦似緞。八段錦有坐式、站式之分。現在流行的站式八段錦來源於清・梁世昌《易筋經圖說》附錄《八段

錦》,各式動作為:雙手托天理三焦,左右開弓似射雕,調理脾胃臂單舉,五勞七傷往後瞧,搖頭擺尾去

心火,兩手攀足固腎腰,攥拳怒目增氣力,背後七顛百病消。八段錦練功時要放鬆及調理氣息,通過鍛鍊

有助於練功者氣機流暢、骨正筋柔、心平氣和。現代研究提示八段錦鍛鍊有促進大學生心理健康,改善 II

型糖尿病患者焦慮狀態,改善婦女更年期抑鬱等作用。

星仔, a young gentleman recovered from depression, shared with audience about his encouraging new insight on

his rehabilitation journey, via story-telling by Dr. Dana Lo, SMO, UHS. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Lit Siu Wai, Head, OCW, illustrating the power of life from the perspective of Narrative Therapy.

本刊取名同理心,更寓意理大同心。

Editor's Note: This issue of PolyUHS news captures most of the health education programs in 2015/16, including the

innovative drama on sleep wellness, and our traditional campaigns covering women health,

cardiovascular health, mental health and TCM talks. This is again a valuable record of the hard work and

passion from many PolyU students and staff towards healthy campus promotion. According to WHO

definition, Health is a dynamic state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being and

not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Let’s join hands and work together, towards the goal of

Whole Person Wellness in a Healthy University.

Student feedback UHS again invited our Student Representatives to have regular meetings for collecting their opinions to

UHS medical service this year. Mr. Macro Wong, Student Representative of Medical Service and Mr.

Dennis Ng, President of PolyU Students’ Union were invited to the consultation meeting on 2

December 2015. Both student representatives showed appreciation to UHS services in general. Student

wellness programs are welcomed.
