Digital Radiography Filmless “X Ray” is not Fiction at UHS

In the second phase of continuation of Filmless Diagnostic Imaging FDI, UHS is pleased to announce the commissioning of State of the Art Digital Radiography DR (General) Service right on campus at UHS clinic in Dec 2012. With traditional Computer Radiography CR, we were deluged with paper work, loads of transport [retrieval or lost] of expensive and non –environmental friendly plastic films.

Without an on-site Radiologist, DR at UHS affords timely and almost instant reporting – another One-Stop-Shop Service OSSS at UHS. Quality reporting is supported by the use of 3 or 5 mega-pixel LCD monitors.

Digital is the Future We had chosen Digital Radiography DR because digital is the future. It’s beauty lies in instantaneous reporting. DR runs on Picture Archive & Connectivity System PACS, based on standard Digital Image & Communication in Medicine DICOM file format. In the not distant future, patients who had X ray taken at UHS’s DR can send off the image to private hospitals that are interfaced with UHS. Other patients choosing to go to public hospital will no longer need to duplicate their X ray there when UHS can send off DR image via the Public Private Interface PPI. That's the beauty of DR at UHS. We believe UHS excels in our class of Primary Health Care.

Looking into the Future…. Another DR facility is for Osteoporosis / Osteopenia, as we deploy the Advanced Digital Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry DEXA Bone Density Scanner. Looking into the digital future, UHS hopes to acquire digital sonography service, and more importantly the Direct to Digital Detector Mammography DDDM for breast cancer health surveillance. This State of the Art DR facility will neatly articulate / integrate into UHS latest stem e Health Record e-HR system that will run in the “ Cloud “ environment in the not distant future.

Services at UHS are available to student, staff and their dependents, and eligible users. Our objective is to support PolyU vision and mission. Our sincere hope is our patients will have a feeling of comfort and care once they had patronize our quality health service.

Well Women Campaign This year the Well Women Campaign was held from 21 Nov to 14 Dec, including 2 health talks, promotion of Pap test and HPV vaccination.

Health Talk: Cervical Cancer Prevention The Health Talk on “Cervical Cancer Prevention” was held at 1-2 pm on 21 Nov at BC 215, delivered by Dr Fandy Ting of UHS. Dr Ting had received training of gynaecology from the Princess Margaret Hospital in earlier years, and was awarded with the Diploma of Community Gynaecology from the Hong Kong College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Cervical Cancer Cervical Cancer is the 7th commonest cancer in females in Hong Kong according to the Hong Kong Cancer Registry 2009. Risk factors include: HPV virus, early sexual exposure, number of partners, sexual transmitted diseases, smoking and suppressed immunity. Both primary and secondary prevention are important in reducing the incidence of Cervical Cancer.

HPV vaccination HPV vaccination can induce antibodies production against HPV infection. It can prevent 70% of cervical cancer. Currently, there are 2 brands of HPV vaccines, including Gardasil and Cervarix. Both vaccines are available at UHS. For those interested, please arrange a medical appointment at UHS for enquiry and prior counseling.

Regular Pap test Regular Pap test can effectively pick up abnormal cervical cells, including HPV virus detection, pre-cancerous cells and cancer. All women after their first sexual intercourse are eligible for performing Pap test. The examination only takes a few minutes. There may be mild discomfort during positioning of the speculum but generally pain is not common. Pap test is available at UHS all year round.

何謂經行伴證？

月經期常見不適有痛經、經行頭痛、經行發熱

、經行泄瀉、經行浮腫、經行乳房脹痛、經行

情志異常等，中醫統稱這些伴隨月經前後或行

經期間發生的疾病為經行伴證。

現場示範穴位按摩

陳醫師及中醫部的同事，以互動的方式，現場

示範痛經、經行頭痛及經行泄瀉的穴位按摩，

帶領八十多位觀眾一起練習。各位同事及同學

於問答環節中表現相當積極，熱烈發問。陳醫

師耐心講解，為大家逐一解開疑團。

香港中文大學中醫學院，為廣州中醫藥大學醫學

博士及臨床醫學碩士，現為香港註冊中醫師及擁

有內地執業醫師資格。通過是次健康講座，陳醫

師向各位理工大學的同事及同學，介紹月經常見

旅遊醫學講座 - 斯里蘭卡篇區大鈞醫生

瘧疾

登革熱

如何預防？

寒冬臘月，冷風侵骨，恨不得登時置身赤道

理大學生會趁此時機，組成一義工團，一月赴斯里

蘭卡。他們準備充足，於出發前六星期已聯絡大學

醫療保健處。故此，保健處於十二月十八日，下午

一至二時，於 BC404，為義工團舉辦有關健康講座，讓同學了解外遊斯里蘭卡的衛生常識。

身處斯里蘭卡，切需防禦由昆蟲傳播的疾病。

瘧疾是其中最致命的。此疾常見於熱帶地區，

在斯里蘭卡則易於北部受感染。人被帶病的瘧

疾蚊虰後七至三十日，會出現間歇性發燒、發

冷、頭痛、肌肉疼痛等症狀，若不及時醫治，

可誘發如貧血、肝腎衰歇、神志不清等症，甚

至死亡。

登革熱也是由蚊虰傳播的疾病，在斯里蘭卡亦很

常見。當地最近即有登革熱爆發，於二零一二年

一月至十月共錄得三萬四千多宗病例。登革熱病

毒共有四種不同血清型，每一型均可引致登革熱

及更嚴重的登革出血熱。登革熱的潛伏期為三至

十四天，病徵包括高燒、嚴重頭痛、眼窩後疼

痛、肌肉及關節痛、嘔心及紅疹。首次感染登革

熱時病情一般較輕，病人癒後對該類型病毒會產

生免疫力，但若繼而感染其他類型的登革熱病

毒，便可引發登革出血熱，病情將較嚴重，更可

致命。

要預防瘧疾及登革熱，首應防蚊。出外須穿著

長袖衫褲，並於外露的皮膚及衣服上塗上含避

蚊胺 (DEET) 成分的驅蚊劑(大學醫療保健處亦有提供其中一種有效的驅蚊劑)。要到瘧疾流行的地區，可先服預防藥物，唯需經醫生處方，

以策安全。

編者的話 之 健康教育路漫漫 繼十一月推出創刊號之後，今期冬季號的內容繼續豐富，全賴一眾保健處的同事熱心工作，各

司其職。推行健康教育，就好像農夫播種子，並不能夠期望每顆種子也能夠立刻發芽；待到他

日遇到適合的土壤和氣候，自然會陸續發芽，只是播種人未必會即時見到吧。

「儘管健康教育路漫漫，病人的改變也許是舉步維艱，在固有制度上的改革更是荊棘滿途。但

那份無法用金錢買到的欣慰，並不是在乎最終杏樹林的大小，而是我們有份參與播種這個過程
