Page 2: Pond Construction

Overview of ~1-acre basin prior to inundation with one-third of the basin bottom lined with AquaBlok® at 7-lbs/SF (~1” dry material thickness). Permeability of native soils were marginal, so only the basin bottom was lined. Note the contrast between the dark AquaBlok (back of photo) and the light dusting of snow covering the foreground and side slopes of the basin.

AquaBlok® liner application from a remote-controlled, belt-driven conveyor (often referred to as a “stone slinger”). Note one person controlling radial belt and the second person floating the newly applied (dry) product to insure the most consistent material thickness. Also note bulk bags of AquaBlok in background, staged for transloading into the slinger truck.

AquaBlok® liner application from a remote-controlled, belt-driven conveyor (“stone slinger”). Note one person controlling radial belt and the second person floating the newly applied (dry) product to insure the most consistent material thickness. Slinger trucks typically have a 15-18 cubic yard capacity and can broadcast AquaBlok up to 90’ from the back bumper.

Overview of an AquaBlok® liner application from atop the remote-controlled “stone slinger.” Note one person controlling the radial belt and the second person available to float the newly applied (dry) product to insure the most consistent material thickness. A 20-ton capacity truck can offload to achieve a 1” dry material thickness in less than 30 minutes.

Overview of ~35,000SF (0.8 acre) of basin bottom just lined with AquaBlok® at 7-lbs/SF (~1” dry material thickness) and prior to inundation. Note pooling water caused by hydration of bentonite/AquaBlok (darkened product at center). Approximately 125 tons of AquaBlok were placed with a three person crew (including one loading the truck) in approximately four (4) hours.

Overview of ~1-acre basin three years after being lined with AquaBlok®. The bentonite-stone composite was applied during construction and prior to inundation. Precipitation and surface water runoff from surrounding development filled the pond initially and it has maintained at full pool since.
